Titus
Cali lies in bed and begins to toss and turn a lot and I sigh heavily and ask, “What’s wrong, love?”
She rolls over to look at me and responds, “I just can’t stop thinking about Rose. I want to help her.”
“Okay, why don’t you tell me about her, and I’ll see what I can do to help?”
“She has two kids a five-year-old and a three-year-old. Her mate was a human and died due to cancer.” I realize who she’s talking about and my eyes widen slightly on realizing what happened. Cali must’ve noticed because she asks, “You know her?”
I nod, “Yes, in the beginning we did a lot to help. I guess as the time passed, she slipped through the cracks.”
She licks her lips nervously and shakes her head and say, “That’s not acceptable. She is stressed and overwhelmed. Her parents are dead and her in laws are humans so it’s not like she has another real option on where she should live unless she wants to go rogue. And no woman is going to do that with two kids and nobody to help her.”
I nod in understanding and I say, “So, what do you want me to do, love? Hire a nanny for her?”
She shakes her head no and says, “We can’t do that. If there are any more pack members in her position, we wouldn’t be able to do that for everyone. It’s not fair for us to pick and choose favorites.”
I nod, “That makes sense… you know, you’re a natural when it comes to this whole Luna thing.”
She rolls her eyes in response and I know that she doesn’t believe me. But every little thing she has done since being announced Luna has wowed me. I give her a peck on her lips and say, “Everything will work out the way that it needs to, love, let’s sleep on it and maybe in the morning we’ll have some more ideas on how to help her.”
She nods, but she has a little pout on her face because she wanted to come up with a solution now. I sigh and begin to pet her head soothingly trying to get her to shut off her mind and go to bed. I watch as her eyes begin to flutter, and I smile softly as she falls asleep.
Cal
I’m unable to sleep well so when I roll on my side and see it’s almost 4:00 a.m. I decide to go ahead and get up and get back to baking. I need to visit all of the families in our pack and on top of that I would really like some more one on one time with Rose.
I’m hoping to get out and about and start visiting people around 6:00 a.m. because that seems to be the normal time for people to be awake around here.
I lose myself in my baking as I play music and begin to dance around the room and just enjoy the time, I’m getting by myself. While my cookies are baking, I decide to get started on breakfast for our pack.
As I’m getting done with a stack of pancakes and a bit of bacon my ears perk up at the sound of men talking. Soon, the door opens, and I turn towards some of our pack members with a smile on my face. All of the men look startled seeing me and they all bow their head out of respect and one man lifts his head up and says, “Luna Cali, sorry we didn’t mean to disturb you. We just finished our shift on patrol and came to grab breakfast.”
My eyebrows furrow in confusion to why he’s apologizing. I look at him and the five other men behind him and I say, “Well, take a seat, please!”
I set the stack of pancakes down in front of them and walk to the cabinets and grab out a stack of plates and reach in a drawer for some forks and I set it down and say, “Please, help yourself. If you give me a few more minutes, I’ll have eggs and bacon ready for you too.”
The men smile back at me and all begin to grab their portion of food as I turn towards the stove and get started on everything else and on making more pancakes.
More voices and footsteps begin to fill the pack house and every time I turn around to drop off food more people have joined us, and some people have left after finishing their food. Some omegas began to join me some of them insisting that I should rest, but I decline. This is part of my job as Luna and I’m going to do it.
I can sense the presence of my mate and I hear him and Hugh and Eric speaking as they come downstairs and one of them says upon seeing the ton of people in the pack house, “Whoa, what’s going on here?”
One of the men spoke up, “The Luna made breakfast.”
I smile as I hear a string of men praise my cooking. I feel Titus’ presence as he comes behind me and places his hands on my hips. I grin from ear to ear and he says in my ear, “Have I ever told you how amazing you are?”
I smirk as I turn my head around to face him, “I mean, I could do with a reminder.”
He chuckles and captures my lips with his and then the room lets out a bunch of whoops and hollers making both of us laugh and separate.
I hear someone begin to tap a glass with a utensil and we all look towards Eric, our Beta, as he says with a smile on his face as he lifts the glass in the air, “To our Luna!”
The men all yell after him, “To our Luna.”
I feel my face turn beet red and Titus pulls me closer to him and says softly, “They love you.”
It seems like I really just might be a natural at this.
