Four | Finding Mates

1335 Words
Olive I sit next to Eric in the cafeteria and I am completely enamored by him. I can’t believe I found my mate. I turned 18 over a month ago and I figured he must not be in my school since I hadn’t found him yet. He catches me staring at him and he grins and pulls me closer and I watch as Britt runs to the table and launches herself into Hugh’s arms. Hugh is one of Eric’s best friends and is Britt’s mate. I feel so content knowing we found our other halves and I’m even happier because they are in the same pack so that means we’ll be in the same pack forever! Eric’s body tenses up and I lift my head up from his shoulder and I look at him with a frown as he turns towards his Alpha, Titus. He asks, “Is everything okay, Ti?” He nods slowly in response with a very serious expression, “Yeah, I just… I thought I might’ve smelt her.” Hugh speaks up, “Your mom would be thrilled.” Titus rolls his eyes in response. He is the Alpha of the Crescent Moon pack and the only reason that he, Eric, and Hugh are at the school is because his mom made them attend. Eric said that Titus’ father and their dads died a few years back in a rogue attack so the three of them were sent off for some accelerated training for their positions and while they were gone, they all graduated high school. But it’s been almost a year since Titus has turned 18 and he still hasn’t found his mate so his mom pressured them to check out this school to see if they could find their mates. Titus is technically the Alpha, but they have yet to have his Alpha ceremony although everyone views and addresses him as the Alpha, and he does all the duties an Alpha is supposed to do. They just haven’t gone through the formal ceremony. Hugh and Eric found their mates easily with me and Britt, but Titus is on edge. He says his wolf is restless and he thinks his mate is here, but he hasn’t found her yet. It’s odd though because the school isn’t very big so I’m not sure how he would be unable to find her if she was here. On top of that, most of the students here are wolves. I think there might be five humans so the likelihood of his mate being here and being one of those humans are slim. And any shewolf here that is 18 would be eagerly looking for their mate, and the shewolves would especially be looking at Titus. He has a high status and is an attractive guy so the girls are going to flock to him in an effort to win him over. I notice Alexander and Haley walking towards our table and I internally groan knowing he’s about to make a big fuss. Alexander is about to be the Alpha over the Starry Shadow pack and already does most of the Alpha duties, so we always have to be respectful towards him. Neither Britt nor I like Haley though because she has tried to bully us multiple times into no longer being friends with Cal. That will never happen though, it would have to be an Alpha command for us not to be around her and since we are about to switch packs, I am sure that will never happen. Alexander for the most part isn’t bad, but we didn’t like that he pursued Cal so hard when he knew she was human and knew the likelihood of her being his mate was incredibly small so he would end up breaking her heart for no reason. The weird thing is though is to my knowledge he still hasn’t found his mate so it’s odd that he stopped going out with Cal. I watch as Haley sits herself a little too close to Alpha Titus. It’s obvious in his body language that he’s not interested in her, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to gain his attention. Alexander stands in front of our group with his arms crossed and he curtly says, “Titus.” I look back at Titus and see him nod respectfully at Alexander. I’m sure that he’s heard about Alexander’s temper and didn’t want to make an enemy so early on and he says, “Alexander.” Alexander’s eyes dart back and forth between Britt and I and he looks at our mates before his eyes fall on me and he says, “I assume these are you mates?” He looks over at Britt letting her know he was addressing her as well. We both nod to confirm his suspicion and he nods and glances at Titus and asks, “How will this work? You take one couple and I take the other?” Both Hugh and Eric growled at the thought of being stripped of their positions and Alexander scoffs and says low enough for only us to hear, “Quiet mutts.” Titus stands up pulling himself away from Haley who started holding onto his arm. He stands in front of Alexander as he sized him up and speaks in a hushed tone because he didn’t want to attract lots of attention, “You will not disrespect my Beta and my Gamma.” Alexander’s eyes flicker between Hugh and Eric and then between the girls and says, “Fine, you can have them. I have been meaning to talk to you about a proposition. I’ve heard you still haven’t found your mate, what do you think about my sister? It would be a nice alliance between our packs.” Titus stares at Alexander as he said, “It hasn’t even been a year, Alexander, I will take my time finding my true mate and I recommend your sister do the same. We can come to other terms for an alliance.” Alexander’s jaw is clenched tight and his sister stands up and grabs Titus’ arm and tries to push her breasts towards him as she says, “Come on, Titus, we could just try going on one da-” He cuts her off and says harshly, “No, we won’t. I will wait for my mate.” He yanks his arm out of her grip and walks out of the cafeteria towards the exit outside. Alexander huffs and shakes his head and walks away with his sister in tow. I look at Eric and ask, “Is he okay?” Eric nods, “He’ll be fine. He is just ready to find his mate. He’s been searching for almost a year and we traveled with him looking for ours and he finally gave up and said it was time for him to take his place as Alpha and stop letting his mom and the old Beta be running the place. His mom insisted that we come here and just said she had a good feeling and told us to go for at least a month. We’ve been here a day and both Hugh and I have found our mates and he’s just upset that he hasn’t found his yet and that he’s already being pushed to find someone new. It’s just… frustrating.” Hugh adds, “It doesn’t help that his wolf is restless.” I nod understanding and Britt says, “Hey Ol, where’s Cal?” Both of the boys growled lowly at the mention of another guy’s name and Britt turned to Hugh and said, “Relax, Cal is a girl and she’s one of our closest friends.” Eric met Cal earlier, so I was taken aback by his possessiveness. But on hearing Britt’s comment both of them relaxed, but they tugged us a little closer. The jealousy is a bit annoying, but it’s also kind of cute how protective they are of us already.
