Scarlett saw Patrick’s continued silence, mockery etched on her face.
“What? Has Mr. Kingsley hit a nerve?”
“You’ve become... a stranger to me.”
Patrick was silent for a moment, then looked directly into Scarlett’s eyes.
“I accept your wager, but it will take a month.”
Scarlett hadn’t expected Patrick to actually agree. Surprise flickered across her face, quickly replaced by her usual composure.
“Good. It’s settled then!”
Patrick was about to bring up the divorce when his phone rang. He hesitated briefly, then walked a few steps away to answer it.
