Chapter 6 Someone Else

Scarlett heard Brenda's words, and she knew deep down that with Patrick's current attitude towards her, he would definitely kill her. Her eyes, dazed and alluring due to the medicine "Please, just knock me out," she begged. Wesley did not answer Scarlett directly. Instead, he scooped her up in his arms. Looking at Brenda with a murderous gaze, he said, "If Patrick does anything to her, I'll make sure you pay for it." Scarlett wanted to say something, but the effects of the drug left her unable to control herself, and she was drawing circles on Wesley's chest. Without hesitation, Wesley carried Scarlett towards the nearest hotel. Scarlett was under the influence of the medicine, and if they delayed any longer, she would be in danger. Once they reached the hotel and the door was closed, Scarlett, under the influence of the drug, wrapped her arms around Wesley's neck. Wesley felt his throat tighten as Scarlett's sudden initiative took him by surprise. "Scarlett, do you even realize what you're doing right now?" Scarlett's slightly parted lips, like a budding rose, seemed to invite a taste. "I... I..." Her words trailed off as Wesley leaned into her closer. His features, perfect as if crafted by the divine, and his eyes, intense and captivating, drew her in. She leaned in to kiss Wesley's lips. Wesley, however, carried her over to the bed. He hesitated despite her overwhelming allure, remembering that she hadn't divorced Patrick yet. If Brenda used this against her, Patrick could target her. He quickly retrieved an antidote spray he had prepared in advance and sprayed it near her nose. Just as Scarlett was about to kiss Wesley, the antidote's effect made her come to her senses. She calmly pulled away from Wesley. "Thank you... for saving me just now." Wesley, not wanting her to feel pressured, looked into her eyes. "No need to thank me. You're my business partner." Scarlett felt an inexplicable sense of disappointment at his words but said nothing more. She just got up to leave the room. But she hadn't taken more than a few steps before Wesley grabbed her arm. "You're just going to leave like that?" Scarlett turned back to Wesley, puzzled. "Why shouldn't I?" Wesley approached her and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Are you really going to let Brenda get away with this?" Scarlett felt her heart racing at his gesture. 'No, my heart belonged to Patrick. How could I feel anything for a man who was merely using me?' She dodged him, her eyes firm. "I know what to do. I don't need your interference." With that, Scarlett walked around Wesley and left. Wesley watched her leave, noting that her personality hadn't changed at all. His eyes, however, flashed with a murderous intent. 'I will never forgive Patrick for hurting her.' ***** The next day, Scarlett went to work at the hospital as usual. On her way, she had a nagging feeling that someone was following her. She quickly followed that car instead and ended up on a less crowded street. She saw people getting out of the car and talking nearby. It was Wesley who had been helping her recently. She rolled down her car window to eavesdrop on their conversation. His two subordinates were asking Wesley why he was helping her. She was curious about what Wesley would say. Wesley's expression was serious as he spoke to his men, "Scarlett's mother's family is powerful. They will be useful in what we're trying to achieve. My goal now is to earn Scarlett's trust." Hearing this, Scarlett could no longer tolerate Wesley getting close to her for this reason. She opened the car door and walked towards Wesley. She mocked, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "So this is your real reason for getting close to me. You're even more despicable than Patrick." Wesley wasn't surprised by Scarlett's sudden appearance. Instead, he remained calm. He walked towards Scarlett and said, "Come with me." Scarlett questioned. "What do we have to talk about?" Wesley knew Scarlett. She despised being lied to. But he had to explain himself, or everything he had done so far would be for nothing. He signaled for his men to leave. Scarlett watched them go and then turned to leave as well. Wesley blocked her escape, pinning her against the wall with his arm. "Do you really not trust me?" Scarlett sneered. "Didn't you make it very clear just now?" Wesley didn't answer but leaned down and kissed her forcefully. Scarlett was taken aback by his move, and before she could push him away, his lips were already on hers. She yelled in anger, "Let me go!" But Wesley took the opportunity to deepen the kiss. Scarlett was overwhelmed by the familiar scent on him, momentarily forgetting to resist. As they kissed passionately, the sound of their breathing filled the air. It wasn't until what felt like an eternity had passed that Wesley finally released her. Scarlett glared at Wesley, struggling to find the words. "You... you..." Wesley finished for her. "Your body is far more honest than your mouth." Scarlett stared at Wesley, trying to decipher his true intentions. "Do you think that I'll believe anything you say just because of this? I only trust what I see with my own eyes." Wesley grabbed Scarlett's hand and placed it over his heart. "Shouldn't you trust what you feel here?" Scarlett's expression grew complex as she watched him. 'How could a man like him, who exuded such noble elegance, truly care for me? It has to be a ploy.' She tried to pull her hand away, but he held it tighter. "What exactly do you want from me?" she demanded. Wesley's captivating eyes locked onto hers. "Don't believe what I said to my men earlier. It was all a ruse to throw off anyone who might be watching." Scarlett wasn't as naïve as she seemed. 'Though the street appeared deserted, who knew if someone was secretly observing us?' Realizing this, she asked, "Why didn't you say so earlier?" Wesley stayed silent. Then, he pulled her towards his car. He signaled his subordinates to start the car. Scarlett couldn't help but remind him. "You still haven't answered my question." Wesley was silent for a moment, his eyes deep and unreadable. "Because you don't believe me." Scarlett felt an indescribable pain upon hearing this. She didn't trust him, so he just let her continue to misunderstand him. But she quickly dismissed the thought. 'I am just his business partner. I couldn't afford to entertain any other ideas.' Just as she was about to speak, she noticed a woman in the wallpaper on his phone's screen. The woman looked a lot like her but younger and less mature. Instinctively, she put some distance between them. 'This woman must be the one he truly loved. Otherwise, why would he use her picture as his phone's wallpaper?'
