Scarlett frowned when she heard that. 'What did he mean?'
She was about to ask Wesley, but he had already left with his men.
She didn't call out to him because she had other matters to attend to.
Recently, her subordinates had informed her that her opponents were planning to target her in a very covert way.
She needed to meet up with her team to get the full details so she could face the situation better.
When she arrived at the nightclub to meet her team, she saw Brenda with her ex-husband, Caspian.
Instead of approaching them immediately, Scarlett carefully listened to their conversation.
Caspian had a serious expression. "Is Patrick out of commission?"
Brenda said, "Don't worry. The Hastings family will ask Scarlett to go to the police station and bail Patrick out. Patrick fully believes I saved him."
Scarlett decided to record their conversation.
'This way, I will have leverage against Brenda. What could Patrick say against it?'
Caspian frowned even more.
"If Scarlett doesn't bail Patrick out, there's nothing the Hastings family can do. After all, Scarlett now has that mysterious man helping her. The Hastings family might not stand a chance."
Brenda reconsidered while touching her chin thoughtfully. "Wesley is Patrick's business rival, but why would he be interested in Scarlett, who's about to get a divorce? Though Scarlett is indeed attractive to many men, she's still married."
Caspian reminded her, "But Scarlett is divorcing Patrick because of Wesley."
'Wesley and I are just business partners. How did Brenda and Caspian see us as having a romantic relationship?'
Brenda's eyes were filled with greed. "Don't forget our goal is the Hastings family's wealth. If Scarlett doesn't divorce Patrick, how can we take their fortune smoothly?"
Scarlett finished recording the conversation that was advantageous to her before meeting with her subordinates.
After learning about her opponent's plans, she headed back.
On her way back, she noticed someone tailing her.
And it wasn't just one car.
She tried to shake them off with her impressive driving skills but found that these followers were just as skilled.
Not only did she fail to lose them, but she would be forced into a dead end if this continued.
She knew the terrain ahead well. It was the sea, which meant they were trying to force her to stop.
If she kept going, she would end up driving into the ocean.
Just as she was about to be cornered, she saw a luxury car pull up in front of those followers.
The person who got out of the backseat was Wesley.
Since they were a distance away, she couldn't hear what Wesley said to them.
She only saw the followers leave after hearing Wesley's words.
During this time, she had already turned her car around and saw Wesley walking towards her vehicle.
Whatever the reason, Wesley had just helped her out of a crisis.
She wasn't the kind of person who didn't know how to show gratitude.
So, she opened the car door and let Wesley in.
Wesley got into the passenger seat, buckled his seatbelt, and spoke, "Don't go out alone anymore."
Scarlett heard this and spoke with a hint of skepticism, "Are you helping me because I'm your business partner, or is there another reason?"
Wesley remained silent for a moment. He decided it was best to stick with business to avoid raising her suspicions.
"You already guessed it. It's because you're my partner. Naturally, I won't let anyone hurt you."
Scarlett felt an inexplicable sense of disappointment but kept her voice calm.
"So I should thank you for helping me out because I'm your business partner?"
Wesley frowned. 'Is that how Scarlett saw me? Is that all between us?'
Neither of them said anything more until they reached the underground parking garage of Scarlett's residence.
Wesley showed no sign of getting out of the car, and Scarlett hesitated before speaking.
"Do you want me to leave?" he asked first.
Scarlett responded with a question instead of answering directly, "Didn't you say we were just business partners? Why are you acting like I owe you something?"
With that, she opened the car door, got out, and left the garage.
She hadn't walked far when Wesley caught up to her and blocked her path.
"When did I ever say you owed me anything?"
Scarlett looked directly into Wesley's eyes. "Isn't the expression on your face telling me? You're the first man I can't figure out and the first who makes me feel uneasy."
Wesley felt a surge of anger at her words.
'Is she really so heartless?'
He grabbed Scarlett's shoulders, his grip tightening slightly.
"If I really had ill intentions towards you, would I care about your feelings like this?"
But Scarlett hadn't forgotten what he said to his subordinates the other day.
She responded coldly, "But you told your men that you were only helping me to gain my trust. So, I'll be straightforward with you. Don't waste your time on me. I have no intention of reconciling with my mother. Besides, I'm not someone who can influence her family."
Wesley looked at her beautiful, cold face, disappointed by her words.
'Is that how she really saw me?'
He held the back of her head and kissed her hard on her seductive lips.
Scarlett's mind went blank as she was mesmerized by his chiseled, perfect features, like a masterpiece sculpted by the gods.
'Didn't he just see me as a business partner? So why is he kissing me?'
By the time she realized what was happening, his lips were already on hers.
She could feel his hot breath and the air in her mouth growing thinner.
She also felt his anger in the kiss, as if he wanted to swallow her whole.
She was suffocating from the kiss and tried to push him away.
But he caught her hands and deepened the kiss.
It wasn't until what felt like ages later that Wesley finally let go of Scarlett.
Scarlett's eyes were dazed, but she still managed to slap Wesley across the face.
"This is the biggest insult to me. I'm not your girl. Why are you kissing me like this? I saw on your phone screen that you have a lover. Why are you doing this to me?"
Wesley grabbed her arm and pulled her close to him.
He said in a low and seductive way, "You're so smart. Can't you see she looks a lot like you?"
Scarlett struggled when she heard his words and pushed Wesley away.
"Liar! Which of your words is true?"
Wesley's gaze was glum, but beneath it was a tenderness for Scarlett.
"Whatever you think I see you as, that's what I am. But right now, isn't your top priority to divorce Patrick and secure the best outcome?"
Scarlett instantly snapped back to reality. 'What am I thinking? I have almost fallen into Wesley's trap.'
