VALERIE
I woke up with a start. My body was heavy, the air thick around me, and when I took in the surrounding, nothing made sense. The soft rustling of leaves around me was unfamiliar and calming all at once. The air smelled sweet, a blend of blooming flowers and damp earth. My heart raced, but my mind couldn’t quite make sense of where I was. I wasn’t in my room, that was for sure. The faint light coming from somewhere above caught my attention, and I instinctively pushed myself up, confusion seeping into every muscle of my body.
What was this place?
I looked around, my mind slowly catching up with my senses. I was sitting on the grass, soft, damp, and cool beneath me. The colors of the night were muted, but there was a soft glow coming from a pool?
