Chapter 14

Kelly took a break as Andrea suggested. Thirty full minutes and she was still there in the break room, reflecting. She wondered how a breakup could have such effect on her. In all her years of being a chef, this has never happened before. Even as a novice in the culinary school, she never made such silly mistakes. Twice in a row? That's heck of a surprise. Thankfully, she was able to enjoy her time alone as no chef came in.

She checked her phone and saw it was already thirty minutes. She would have to resume back to the kitchen, Xavier is busy with other things and had put her in control. Though Andrea promised to step in and would do so perfectly, Xavier might not understand if he knows she has left as well.

"You're back already? It's just been what, ten minutes? Are you sure you're okay now?" Andrea asked when Kelly got back to her stand. She didn't even notice until kelly got to her. She has been busy filling in for the both of them to avoid slowing down on orders.

"I'm okay now, thanks." Kelly said in a very sweet voice. She almost jumped for joy when Xavier strolled in just then. A minute later in the break room and she would have had a lot of explanation to do.

Xavier stood at a distance and signaled Kelly to come with him. She did. He wanted her to meet with some new clients who were looking to contract them for an event. He had vouched for his sous chef who would be handling a part of the cooking. They demanded to meet the chef and he had to come get her himself so he could fill her in on the way.

Kelly didn't disappoint. She handled what seemed more of an interview than just a meeting. She knew exactly what they wanted and gave a detailed explanation as well. The clients were so impressed with her expertise and were left with no other choice than to give them the contract.

Xavier couldn't stop smiling as they finalized the deal. It was a huge deal that would fetch them a huge paycheck as well as pave the way for more contracts.

"That was mind blowing chef, you did really great and I'm super proud of you. Really!" Xavier commended her after the clients had left. Kelly blushed and replied with a sincere thanks.

"And to think I almost fired you yesterday, I'm glad I was able to reason with you and didn't. Who knows, maybe I would have missed out on such huge deal today cause of hasteful decision." Xavier commended her further. That wasn't the first time she had come through and mesmerized clients into trusting the restaurant with their event. Each time, Xavier would commend her till her ears start to ache. He isn't like that to just her. He commends every good result any of his chefs does. That is one of the things that makes him a great boss. Every year, the restaurant gets a large number of interns interested in learning under the great Xavier. It's always like this because they are sure of getting great value within their internship period...

Kelly left the office shortly afterwards and joined Andrea in the kitchen. It was time for their shift already and Andrea was made her last order when Kelly walked up to her with face full of beaming smiles. Andrea smiled when she saw this. Though she didn't know what was making her friend blush so much, still she liked that she was happy.

"So, are you ready to talk now?" Andrea asked as she passed the plate over to the waiter. She then put off her apron and threw it in the space meant for the used ones. The cleaner will wash them soon and put out clean ones.

"Guess..." Kelly replied as they made their way out of the kitchen. Rose was just resuming for her shift and was heading towards them. Andrea was the first to spot her. She was already tired from the day's work and wasn't in the mood for Rose's long talk. She quickly grabbed Kelly by the hand and went the other way.

"What did you do that for?" Kelly asked when the coast was clear and Andrea finally let go of her hand.

"Nothing, it's Rose..." Andrea replied with a raised brow.

"I really don't know why you guys don't like her. Rose is actually a very nice person. Did I tell you she send me get well soon text yesterday?" Kelly let out.

"That's so nice of her and I don't hate her. I like her, I don't know about others though. But right now, I can't deal with her long talk." Andrea explained.

"So, back to our talk? What's up with you? Did William call you or what?" She added while Kelly smirked.

"Can we not mention his name please?" She replied.

"William, William, William..." Andrea taunted her and was going to continue if Kelly hadn't stopped her.

"At this rate, I think you want him back more than I do. You seem to miss him a lot." Kelly chimed in while Andrea stopped abruptly, looked at her for a second and then burst into a loud laugh. Kelly replayed what she had just said in her head and she realized it was really funny. She then joined Andrea in her laughing spree. They continued laughing until they were in the break room. It wasn't vacant like the other time, two other chefs were in their resting as well so they had to put a stop to their laugh.

They sat in a corner where Kelly explained everything about the new deal. Andrea also beamed with smiles and then highfived her. They talked for a while more over lunch and even after. Steve called while they were still at this and it made Kelly love sick again. William would have also called her then...
