Chapter 7:-Disclosing the truth

888 Words
“Fifteen days later…” I could hardly believe it as I walked out of the exam hall, the sun shining brightly and a sense of freedom washing over me. My final exams were finally over, and they had gone pretty well. I felt a wave of relief and accomplishment. Now, I could finally relax and enjoy my leisure time. As I made my way home, I thought about all the things I wanted to do. Reading for pleasure, catching up on my favorite shows, and maybe even some baking. But one thought kept nudging its way to the forefront of my mind: Ethan. I hadn’t opened the game since that night when I read his last message. His words had lingered with me, and even now, I could hear them echoing in my mind. Ethan had given me his Snapchat handle, offering a way to stay connected. But I was still confused about making a Snapchat account just for him. When I got home, I tossed my backpack on the bed and sank into my chair. I knew I couldn’t make this decision alone. I needed to talk to someone, someone who would understand. My favorite cousin, Emma, was the perfect person to confide in. Emma was my 14 year old cousin. she seems very young with her age but is equally mature and responsible. She lived at walking distance from my place so i regularly visit her. I grabbed my phone and dialed her number. After a few rings, she picked up. “Hey, Lil! How did your exams go?” Emma's cheerful voice greeted me. “Hey, Em! They went really well, thanks. But I need to talk to you about something important. Can I come over?” “Of course! I’m just at home. Come on over and we’ll chat.” Half an hour later, I was sitting in Emma’s cozy living room, a cup of tea in my hands. Emma looked at me with her trademark curiosity. “So, what’s on your mind, Lil?” I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts. “It’s about a friend I met online, Ethan.” Emma’s eyes lit up with interest. “Tell me everything.” I launched into the story, explaining how I had met Ethan through the online game, how we had become close friends, and how he had asked to meet in person. I told her about my decision to keep our friendship strictly online and Ethan’s response with his Snapchat handle. Emma listened intently, nodding along as I spoke. When I finished, she leaned back and took a sip of her tea. “Wow, that’s quite a story. So, what’s the problem?” “I’m not sure if I should create a Snapchat account just to stay in touch with him,” I admitted. “I’ve always been distant from social media because I don’t want the distractions. But Ethan… he’s different. I feel like I’m missing out on something important by not staying connected with him.” Emma gave me a thoughtful look. “It sounds like you really care about him, Lil. And from what you’ve told me, he cares about you too. Sometimes, it’s worth taking a chance, even if it’s outside your comfort zone.” “But what if I get hurt?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Emma reached over and squeezed my hand. “That’s always a risk, but it’s also a part of life. You can’t live in fear of getting hurt. If you never take any risks, you’ll never know what could have been.” I sighed, feeling a mixture of relief and confusion. “You’re right. I just… I need to think about it some more.” Emma nodded. “Take your time. There’s no rush. But don’t let fear hold you back from something that could be really special.” We spent the rest of the afternoon catching up, talking about everything from school to our favorite books. But Ethan’s message was always at the back of my mind, a constant reminder of the decision I needed to make. As I walked home that evening, I felt a little more at ease. Talking to Emma had helped me see things more clearly. I still wasn’t sure if I was ready to take the plunge into social media just to stay connected with Ethan, but I knew I needed to make a decision soon. When I got back to my room, I sat down at my desk and opened my laptop. I navigated to the game, staring at the login screen. My fingers hovered over the keyboard as I debated whether to log in or not. Finally, I took a deep breath and logged in, my heart pounding with anticipation. The familiar interface appeared, and I navigated to our chat history once again. Seeing Ethan’s message brought a small smile to my face. He was still waiting, still hoping for a response. I closed my laptop, feeling a sense of determination. I would think about it tonight, weigh my options, and decide what to do in the morning. For now, I was content knowing that I had someone like Emma to support me, and that maybe, just maybe, I was ready to take a chance on something new.
