Chapter 20: The Plan

439 Words
As the trio retreated to a secluded motel just outside the town, the urgency of their situation pushed them into action. The small, dimly lit room was a far cry from the comfort and safety they longed for, but it would have to do. They gathered around the small table, their faces illuminated by the single overhead light as Marcus pulled out a map and laid it flat. “We need to go over the details carefully,” Marcus said, his voice low and serious. “Danny said he’ll send us the info soon, but we need to be ready.” Jaxon nodded, his jaw tight as he leaned forward to study the map. “Once we get the shipment location, we’ll have to move fast. We can’t afford to give them any time to prepare.” Samantha sat beside him, her heart pounding as she tried to focus. “What if they have people guarding the shipment? What if we walk into a trap?” “We have to assume they’ll be prepared,” Marcus replied, his tone grim. “But we have the element of surprise. They won’t expect us to be bold enough to strike back.” Jaxon placed a hand on her arm, his touch grounding her. “We’ll be smart about this. Stick to the plan, and we’ll make it through.” As the hours ticked by, the plan began to take shape. They mapped out potential escape routes, discussed worst-case scenarios, and prepared themselves mentally for what lay ahead. But no matter how much they planned, the fear of the unknown gnawed at Samantha’s mind. When Danny’s message finally came through, the tension in the room escalated. Jaxon opened his phone, reading the details aloud. “The shipment is arriving tomorrow night at a warehouse on the outskirts of the city. They’ll have minimal security—just a couple of guards to oversee the transfer.” “Minimal security,” Marcus repeated, frowning. “That sounds too easy. There’s got to be more to it.” Jaxon’s eyes darkened. “It’s never that simple. But we’ll be ready for whatever they throw at us.” Samantha swallowed hard, her nerves frayed as she imagined the danger they were about to face. She wasn’t a fighter—she never had been. But now, she had to become one, if only to survive. “Are we really doing this?” she whispered, looking to Jaxon for reassurance. He turned to her, his expression softening for a moment. “We have no choice. But I promise you, Sam, I’ll keep you safe. No matter what.”
