Scared to my bones, I still had to trust my instinct and go with the only man who had been kind to me tonight.
We were about to take a turn through the back of the private bar when some armed men blocked our path from the front, their faces were covered, and they gestured aggressively.
Fear gripped me; what was actually going on?
Before I could process what was happening, gunshots rang out, and the fight erupted. Lorenzo first shoved me to the ground, and I rolled over, behind the glass tables, using the big sofa we initially sat on as a cover while I peeked out slowly to see what was going on.
My teeth clenched in panic.
I watched him struggle with these men along with his guards; before my eyes, he shot three men at the spot, and they fell lifeless.
Men grunted and bled; it got to a point where his gun was knocked out, and he had to use his fist, then a knife he drew from one of the lifeless men.
The masked men kept coming, and we knew we were already outnumbered.
"Boss!" One of his men called out as the numbers kept rising.
"To the car." He screamed, dragging me up from my hiding, and we ran out of the private bar to the main hall where the clubbing was held.
It was already empty. Outside, a small fire was burning at a corner; some men were engaged in a fight; tonight it looked like "kill or be killed". I shivered at that thought.
Lorenzo kept shooting men down; it was as if he never missed a shot, and his men kept us covered.
A small stream of tears ran down through my left eye; my life flashed before my eyes. I hadn't seen anything like this in my entire life.
We ran outside the club when a black SUV immediately swerved around us. He thrust me into the back seat with his men in the front, and we zoomed off.
The police and firefighters were already approaching the scene when we drove off. With the speed of the car, they suspected we had caused the chaos and chased after us.
"Shiii!" The man driving muttered.
"Looks like someone from the club tipped them off." The other joined.
"What do we do, boss?" The others asked, infuriated.
"Get them to a spot; I'll finish off." Said Lorenzo.
His voice sounded so evil; I folded my legs in complete panic. The driver drove like we would crash into something soon; my heart almost stopped.
Soon, the police car caught up to us. Before they could overtake, Lorenzo shot the car's tires, BANG! BANG!, and it got deflected at that instant.
The police car was tossed into a nearby pond.
I gasped at the horror.
We kept driving at speed; I dared not look into his eyes.
We could see more police cars chasing us from the side mirror. It looked like the others had called for backup.
"Oh boy! I dislike these guys," one of the men said.
Lorenzo didn't blink; he looked very calculating. "Go through the ghetto." He commanded.
"Yes, boss"
The driver increased the speed of the car. I just wish everything happening was a nightmare.
His phone rang, and he picked up. "Victor, what's going on?"
I couldn't hear exactly what the other person said on the phone.
"Secure the entrance, make sure no one leaves," he ordered, almost shouting. The police gave a hot chase, but soon they were out of sight.
"We lost them." One of the men said in excitement.
"Good job." His colleague hit his shoulder playfully.
They laughed; I found myself smiling along.
Lorenzo chuckled, and I snapped back to reality, what am I doing? These people just survived a shootout.
It was a long drive along tiny streets and rough asphalt, but we soon arrived at the parking lot of a mansion. It was serene and luxurious as usual... expensive.
He dragged me out of the car, and we went in. The guards at the entrance did not question him; they bowed slightly as we passed.
The mansion was so big and luxurious that I initially thought it was a hotel, but as we walked in, I noticed a large sign on the top building; it read: Palazzo Lorenzo's.
It was then that I understood this was his abode. The calmness here soon made me forget my plight.
"Oh, Lorenzo. I was so worried," said an elderly lady as she touched his face as soon as we stepped inside the mansion. It seemed she had been awake waiting for him to return.
"I'm alright, Mama."
"Who's she?" The woman asked, referring to me.
Lorenzo had held me for too long; my hands hurt from the tight grip. He tossed me over to his mom, and I staggered slightly.
"My lady," he said.
"Oh my heavens!" She exclaimed gloriously. "Lorenzo finally! You decided to bring me a woman to have my grandchildren." She pulled me in and gave me a big hug. She smelled expensive. I sniffed.
The woman was still smiling at me. "How are you?"
I chuckled; I was already tired. Today is the most stressful day of my life.
"What!" Someone screamed happily down the stairs and rushed down to me, hugging me too. She looked like Lorenzo; I need not be told they were siblings.
"Lorenzo finally brought her to us," his mom told the young girl. She was around my age, I guess.
"What's your name?" She asked me, smiling.
"Amelia," I responded in a tired tone.
"You must be special,” she teased. “ Lorenzo never brought any woman home. Mama V and I had been begging him to at least..."
"Tell the nannies to clean her up; she's not a guest." He ordered, cutting off the conversation. "She sleeps in my room tonight. We had a long day today, and I just want her to rest." He added. "Felicia."
"Yes, brother," The young girl replied, still smiling. It was then that I cleared my thoughts that these were his mom and sister. Why would he bring me to his family's house? Was it because of the police chase?
After a quick wash-up, one of the housekeepers led me into Lorenzo's chamber; it was very big. I had no choice but to lie on the big bed; soon I fell asleep.
"Princess," someone tapped my shoulders gently.
I forced my eyes open, and it was Lorenzo.
