Working the emergency room, Jarod finished with his patient. His thoughts raced full speed ahead. He tried to get his mind to wrap around the fact Ty was on his way to meet with Detective Black. Jarod’s pulse raced and his mouth felt dry. Maybe Jarod had imagined Ty’s relationship with the police. Maybe Ty wasn’t hiding from them after all. The relief that thought offered was intense.
“Hey, Jarod. Can you help me with this?” Nancy, one of the other nurses Jarod worked with, waved him over.
Jarod moved across the room and followed her into one of the curtained cubicles.
It’d help Jarod force his mind to stop its travel down the “what if” trail. Minutes later, when he finished, he stepped around the curtain and that’s where he stood when he first glimpsed at Ty.
