Chapter 16: Matthew POV
I haven't seen my brother much and I definitely haven't seen his mate in days. If I didn't sense their presence or hear the TV on when I walked by their room I would think they went out of town. I can sometimes hear whimpering from that room but I can't imagine why. Nate would never hurt Willa.
After six days without seeing my brother or his mate I finally gave in to my curiosity. I knocked on their bedroom door. I was met with a low growl. "Go away!" I could tell it was Nate. He was agitated. "Come on, Bro. Let me at least see your ugly face!" That one always got him. Several minutes and some odd sounds later Nate finally answered the door. "What?" He asked, more like yelled. I felt my eyes widen as I took in his appearance. His hair was disheveled and his eyes looked tired.
"Matty!" I heard a small happy voice behind him call my name. I hadn't been paying attention but Willa was hanging off him like a child, her legs wrapped tightly around his waist. She was only wearing a grey sports bra and pink cotton shorts. She waved her fingers at me. She never let go of Nate, climbing up his back with her hand on his chest. Where did her energy come from?
"Did I interrupt something?" I asked, confused. Why the heck was my sister-in-law hanging off Nate like some kind of baby animal while only wearing underwear? "This isn't a good time," Nate croaked out, sounding as exhausted as he looked.
"What do you mean? I haven't seen you in days. When can I see you if not now?" I asked, annoyed. Were they too busy hiding in here having s*x or something? He shook his head, "Maybe in a few days. Right now we have a situation that is best kept isolated." I stood my ground, "Tell me what is going on. Maybe I can help!" He dragged his hand down his face in frustration.
"Willa is in heat. I can't let her out or let anyone in," he confessed. I blushed at the mention of her heat. Even I knew what that meant. Suddenly it all made sense. She was undressed because her body temperature was high, she was clinging to my brother for comfort, and they were hiding from all of the unmated wolves.
"Let me help! You look exhausted. I can stand guard while you rest in your office or my room," I suggested. Nate looked dead tired. I half expected him to close the door in my face. Before he could turn down my offer Willa pulled herself up and peaked over his shoulder. "It's okay, babe, go rest. I can be on my own for a little while. It's almost over anyway."
Nate grumbled but reluctantly gave in after Willa jumped off his back and stood up, showing that she could detach herself without falling apart. "See, I got this," she said flexing her tiny arm that lacked muscle tone. I laughed while my brother sighed. "Just for a little while," he said, yawning.
Before closing the door he went to Willa, kissed her forehead, and said, "You mindlink me the second you feel any pain. I will come running." She nodded and pulled him in for a kiss on the lips. I turned around in the hall and waited patiently, my back to the display of affection.
Nate walked out of the bedroom, closed the door, and said, "I would never wish this hell upon anyone, not even my enemies." I pushed him towards the stairs so he could go down to his office. He had a comfortable red couch in there. "Go rest. You're not making sense." I laughed as I watched him struggle to walk in a straight line. "Remember, no one goes in and she doesn't come out," he rambled.
As soon as he disappeared I slid down to the floor, my back to the door. What had I volunteered myself for? I played with my phone for awhile. I liked the puzzle games I could download and play when I got bored.
I was about an hour into a memory game on my phone before I heard the whimpering begin. It was Willa. I waited for Nate to appear but he didn't. After several minutes and some full on crying on the other side of the door I pulled myself up and pushed the door open. I just wanted to assess how bad it was before waking Nate up.
Willa was on the bed shaking, writhing in pain. "Nate? Where are you? Why don't you want me?" She asked into the air, more like begged. I mind-linked my brother for her, realizing her fever had her overwhelmed and a little out of it. "I'm getting him for you now, Sis," I said as I started to turn around in the doorway.
"Nate!!" Willa screamed and suddenly jumped on my back. She ran her fingers through my dark curly hair and kissed my neck. I froze. This was uncomfortable and inappropriate. "Sis, its me Matt, remember? I'm not your mate." She rambled a string of incoherent words in a low raspy voice. It was kind of sexy but weird at the same time.
My wolf tried to come to the surface. He could smell her arousal. He had started coming out more around women. I pushed him back, chastising him. She is Nate's mate for crying out loud!
I turned around in circles trying to get her off of me. She was clinging to me like a magnet. How could someone so small be this difficult to handle? I finally managed to throw her off of me and on to the bed. She immediately sat up on her knees and started crying. "You're not Nate!" She wailed. I sighed, "Of course I'm not my brother. Hang on. I will go get him."
Her sobbing got louder and she rambled on about someone named Lucas. "Why do you keep hurting me Lucas? What did I ever do to you? I never wanted you to touch me!" Her rambling was coherent this time and her words got me flustered. Who was Lucas and what did she mean by touching?
I ran downstairs and found Nate in a deep sleep on the red couch. I smacked him hard across the face, waking him and of course angering him. "What?!" He growled. I ignored his tone and pulled on his arm, "Get up! Willa is having some kind of melt down!" He shot up, suddenly wide awake.
He was upstairs in their bedroom comforting her in a matter of seconds. I followed, ready to be his backup if he needed me. It was apparent he didn't need me for this. I watched from the door way. He was holding her like a child. Her arms were wrapped around his neck and legs firmly around his waist. He was rubbing small circles into her back and whispering something into her ear. She was silent, her breathing even.
A woman's heat was a scary thing. How Willa was surviving it I didn't know. I thanked the Moon Goddess for not cursing me with it.
I decided to leave them to their private moment and return to my room. I made the conscious decision not to tell my brother about what happened, at least not the part where his mate jumped on me and kissed my neck. I wasn't looking to start trouble. She was feverish and I had unintentionally disobeyed him by letting myself into the room.
