Delukas POV
Walking into the bedroom I share with my mate and queen I first notice the puffy red bags under her eyes. "Hey darling " I say softly in our link. her head turns to me slowly and a small soft smile graces her lips. Ryker bounces in my head like a newborn pup at the sight of the smile he was terrified would be lost forever. I sat in our bed next to my mate and held her like she'd disappear if I loosened my grip. for the first time in what felt like forever she held me back and tears started flowing. it wasn't until she asked why I was crying that I realized they were flowing from my eyes. sniffling and whipping away my tears I said "you really scared me. all of us. I was so scared I'd lost you. I'm just so happy to have you back. " once again a small smile crossed her lips and she kissed me so gently yet passionately that it was like she thought too much pressure would make my lips shatter. I felt her love strengthen more through the mate bond and we sat there in silence holding each other till she was ready to address the outside world again.
Missentis POV
Seeing my mate emerge from my best friend and queens bedroom filled me with joy at the sight of him but also hope at his calm demeanor that was only solidified at hearing that my queen was ready for her mates strength to help her stay standing through this tragedy. After Deluka goes to his mate mine sits with us and answers questions about what he talked to the queen about in private. " Why did the king choose you to help my sister above her own siblings? " Zeno was the first to ask. my heart shattered at my mates response. " because I know what it's like to lose a family member. " I gasped and clutched his arm tight. He placed his arm around my waist and pulled my torso into his own. The story he told us of his little sister and how he met our king left not one dry eye between the 5 of us sitting with him. Leena burst into tears and sobs when he told us how the kings family took him in and we all giggled softly at his recollection of throwing up the kings mothers cooking and the kings parents held each other closer than before. " Did you ever see your family again? " I asked full of curiosity. "About a year into staying with us he gave me his mother's number and I called her. I told her I had her son staying with me and her first response was begging me to let her speak with him. " The kings mother responded. " I told her they could either move out there to live on land near my best friend and his family or that I wanted to never see them again and these two would be my new parents. " my mate continued. " And? " Leena asked with eyes wide and expectant like she was on the edge of her seat. " We have all been next door neighbors ever since. " he said looking at the kings parents with a big silly grin. joy flooded through me until a shreik escaped me as the prince connected his fist with my mates face. My mate didn't react or get upset. His lip was bleeding and he just laughed. "I deserve that. I took my little sister, my family for granted. " My mate calmly started licking the blood from his lip. I'd never seen my princes eyes full of such rage. But they had tears flowing from them like a raging river. " HOW CAN YOU LAUGH TALKING ABOUT THE DEATH OF UR LITTLE SISTER SO CASUALLY?! HOW DO YOU NOT BLAME URSELF FOR NOT BEING THERE TO PROTECT HER?! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! " The last question came out almost a sob as his knees buckled and he hit the floor curling into the fetal position and holding his face in his own hands crying and yelling hysterically. though he was young the strength of the aura exuding from him was so strong I was terrified he would shift right here infront of us and tear the fourier apart. I was shocked when little Leena placed her hand on his back and his shaking and hysterics almost instantly subsided to little more than a small sob. she pulled her brother into her embrace and he held her tightly instantly. " It's ok big brother I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere. " She says as a few tears cascade silently down her cheeks.
Dygos POV
One of the kitchen servents came out of the kitchen and bowed with grace stating dinner was ready. I gave my mate a look and she gave me the same knowing look. we each helped the prince and princess to their feet and along with my best friends parents started for the kitchen when a door upstairs closed. as the king and queen floated down the stairs we all bow acknowledging their presence and accepting them into the group. I gave my best friend a hug only brothers give each other and my mate and his embrace in a hug only sisters give one another. Dinner was full of conversation but still peaceful as the king laughed hard hearing that the prince busted my lip open. I can only imagine though that the prince got an earful from the queen as he winced putting his hand to his forehead rubbing his temples. It was like a family dinner long over due. I know we all wanted this night and these happy times to never end but all too soon it was time to sleep and I found myself in bed with my mate sleeping peacefully as a small tear escaped my eye in loving memory of my sister. I'll never forget her. Sleep soon engulfed me and it was deep and sound.
Queen Kalistas POV
Waking up in my kings arms I move to sit up but am pulled closer to my mate realising he's already awake. " You're up early. please tell me you didn't stay up all night worrying about me. " I said in our link. " No darling I only just woke up a few minutes before you. " He responded. We both went for a run in wolf form as both Nyla and Ryker had been cooped up for days. We gave them full freedom and they made sure to make the best of it especially by strengthing their own bond in mating. When returning to the castle Nyla caught a hint of a scent she noticed as vaguely familiar but couldn't quite put her claw on it. After shifting back into human form and putting on the clothes left for us by the maids we made our way to the kitchen for breakfast. Within ten minutes everyone had joined us. After eating our fill my mate and his friend went to the training grounds to spar and let off some steam while I sat quietly reading one of my favorite brail translated books titled Riding Freedom. I felt a peace I didn't think I'd feel again after my father passed.
