Avery's POV

I spent the entire night in my room, I needed to think. I tried calling Claire but she didn't reply to my call and I felt like she was upset with me I sighed knowing there is nothing I can do about it for now

It was a new day, I already told myself that I won't go anywhere today, I don't want to start answering questions

"Go to mate," my wolf said to me for the umpteenth time since last night

Calm down I need space and time to think. I can't just disregard everything and go to him

Why not she whimpered

"Really Iris?..... I'm not talking about this anymore" I snapped

"Good morning mom and dad," I said walking to my parents who seemed to be having a deep conversation

"Good morning Avery......How are you doing? Did you sleep well? " mom said

"Yes mom I did"I replied

Dad walked up to me and kissed my forehead "Honey what happened last night, I'm not pressuring you to tell me but as your parents, we would like to know.

"Everything happened so fast" I said

"Sweetheart let's sit down a for a bit" dad interrupted

I found out Alpha Axel was my mate I was in a complete daze unable to look away from him. I was feeling so many things at once. The joy of meeting my mate made me feel so alive but then I saw the broken look on my best friend's face. Dad, I felt like I betrayed her by being mated to the man she was in love with. So I resisted the urge to go to him, instead, I ran away. I didn't know what else to do I panicked...Is there some kind of mistake somewhere" I said quavering

"My dear you haven't done anything wrong, you didn't choose who you're mated with, the goddess pairs people who are compatible together, and no one has control over that, and trust me there are no mistakes " dad said

"Your father is totally right, you didn't do anything wrong so don't make anyone make you feel like you did ok? " mom said

"Why would Claire even think Axel is her mate anyway? That doesn't make sense" my dad observed

"Well apparently they were close as kids so people thought they'd be mates" I commented

"Still that's not enough reason to be so convinced. I'm sure it's Patricia that feed that young girl such crazy notions, that woman has a very bad character, always wanting to be on top, being the Beta's wife isn't enough for her" mom said, "That's their problem, but the way you left that young man at the Hall was not very nice, you need to go to him he's not just your mate he is also your Alpha".

"Alright mom, I'll go to him but I need some space for now"I stated

" Ok dear, it is your life. We won't pressure you" Dad concluded

Later that week I tried calling Claire and she still wasn't replying to my messages so I decided to go to her house. When I knocked on the door Chase was the one who opened it

"Hello Luna," he said while coming out and closing the door behind him. Noticing this I became worried

"What's wrong does she really not want to see me" I asked sadly

"Actually it's more of-".... "What did you just call me" I interrupted him shocked by the term he used earlier

"Well because you're the alpha's mate it's only proper that I refer to you by your title" he replied then I kicked him

"Ouch! what was that for? " he whispered loudly

"It was for the ridiculous title, I'm not mated yet so it's unreasonable to call me that, just use my name as usual"

"Ok if you insist but it's unreasonable to try to run away from this and if it's because of my sister don't worry she'll get over it, she's just sulking now I assure you" he said

"Is she at home now?" I asked

"No she's not but mom is and she won't be pleased to see you, I was actually about to leave for the pack house you're lucky you met me" he stated

"Is it that bad?....Ok I'll go home then" I mumbled

On my way home i got stares from different people, some even bowing as I passed them, this was the reason I haven't been going to the pack grounds is that I knew something like this would happen but I underestimated how fast news would spread

"Avery, how are you doing today" one chirpy girl said

"Hey...I'm fine I guess" I said confused because I didn't know who the girl was

"That's wonderful," she said

"Excuse me, do I know you"I asked

"No you don't know me yet but I can tell we will become good friends,I'm Riley"she said cheerfully

"Nice to meet you Riley, "I say walking away

When I got home I saw my mom holding several gift baskets

"Mom what are those" I asked slowly

"They are gift baskets from your well wishers and the pack a$$ kissers" she cheered

"Seriously but it's so unnecessary, I'm not even Luna yet" I said

"I'm picking up sadness in your voice, what's wrong" she said

"Is this how I'm going to continue, people kept staring and talking about me, it was very uncomfortable " I groaned

"Sweetheart you can't let that stop you from living your life and going out. Hiding from the attention by staying at home is a cowardly thing to do. I didn't raise a coward did I? she asked

"No, you didn't"I mumbled

"Well tomorrow I want you to resume your duties and live your life, hope you haven't given up from your goal of beating your father, I would honestly love to see that" she said with a small laugh

"Oh I haven't forgotten " I said smiling. I thought about the wonderful relationship my parents had and then remembered my mate.

"Mom what if he's upset that I ran away and doesn't want me anymore " I whispered

'Trust me, my dear, he'll still want you and if for any reason he doesn't want you then he's an i***t "she said confidently without even asking who I was talking about.

Axel's POV

I was so confused, I had to see her. My wolf was restless, I wasn't able to sleep properly so I decided that since I couldn't find her I'll go to the Beta's house she seems to go there a lot.

Getting there I saw Claire outside about to go out.

"Hey" I called out

"Good morning Alpha Axel" she replied

"Sorry to disturb you but I figured out that your family is very close to her and I need to find her"I pleaded

"Avery needs space, if she hasn't come to you she has a reason why she probably doesn't want to be with you," she said walking away. "So that's her name"I thought

"Is this about Chase" it pained me to ask because I was scared to hear the answer but I had to know

"I don't understand your question" she said

"Don't play dumb I mean is there something going on between them, is that the reason she is hiding from me?" I asked

"Uhm......well Avery and my brother have always been close, they have a very intimate relationship but now I doubt they're still seeing each other" " she said

"I'll kill him for touching my mate" Kai snarled in my head

Seeing my facial expression she added "But that was before you came back, my brother would never have gotten involved with her if he knew she belonged to you"

"Ok, thank you for being honest with me, it must've been hard considering that he's your sibling" I said

"Yes but it's fine my duty is to you first, and remember if you need anything, anything at all I'm here for you" she said

"Have a nice day" I mumbled walking away distraught not seeing the smirk she wore as she turned away.
