Prologue

I"m not your ordinary wolf; I didn"t grow up in a middle class family, a house with a white picket fence, with friends to go out and play with, or even parents to love and protect me. No, that wasn"t me. Though I wish it was. When I was four years old, a pack of rogue wolves invaded our territory. My parents died protecting me from them, leaving me as a lone wolf. Hours later the Alpha found me in the basement hiding under a few crates. Since I was the only survivor, he made it his responsibility to take me in. To put a roof over my head and make sure I was taken care of. You would think my life would be good from then on out, but you"d be wrong. The alpha had two children. Mark, who was seven, and his sister, Alice, who was a year younger. Alice and I hit it off from day one. On the other hand Mark didn"t seem to like me very much. His dislike steadily grew into hatred as day by day Alice and I grew closer. It started off as a push or shove here and there. Then turned into a slap or punch. He made sure to never leave any traces of the abuse on any visible skin. He always threatened to lock me down in the dungeon and throw away the key if I ever dared to tell anyone. So I kept quiet, not even telling Alice. I became a very timid, fearful girl, jumping at every noise and constantly looking over my shoulder for him to pop out and hurt me. As time went on, my life only got worse and worse. Mark turned the whole pack against me. Telling lies, after lies, after lies. Not even Alice was able to stop them from bullying me in school and outside of it. And since I never was the one to stand up for myself, I became the Omega of the pack. The weakest wolf. The one that always took the abuse given to them with a smile. The one who always had their head down, eyes lowered in submission. The one that could never go against anybody. I can"t really say it was all bad. Other than Alice, I had made another friend who"s name was Oliver. Though he went by Ollie, for short. He was gay and being a gay wolf was normally frowned upon. That didn"t stop him from being open about his sexuality though. No, if anyone dared to try and bully him he"d beat them to an inch of their life. He happened to be one of the strongest wolves in the pack. So everyone kept quiet and left him alone. He always made it a point to support me and be there for me when I needed it. We all anxiously awaited the mating ball. The day our wolves found our mates and we got the hell out of this pack. Going elsewhere to start anew. Even I was excited to find myself a loving mate and finally leave this place. But if anyone had told me that it would have gone the way it did, I wouldn"t have believed them. Boy, was I wrong.
