Chapter 8: Secrets Beneath the Moon
The sanctuary had grown quieter since Lucian’s public claim, but Isabella felt no peace. Every glance from the pack carried weight, every whisper seemed to cut. She pressed her hand against her stomach when no one was looking, guarding the secret that grew inside her.
Isabella (to herself): “If they knew… if Selene knew… she would strike without mercy.”
---
Lucian’s presence was constant, protective. He watched her with sharp eyes, sensing her unease.
Lucian: “You’re hiding something. I can feel it.”
Isabella forced a smile, shaking her head.
Isabella: “I’m just tired. The mark… it still burns.”
Lucian’s gaze lingered, but he said nothing more.
---
Selene prowled the sanctuary like a shadow, her voice dripping with venom.
Selene (to pack members): “She is weak. She trembles at night. Is this the Luna you want?”
Her words spread like wildfire, sowing doubt. Wolves began to question Isabella’s strength, even as Lucian silenced them with his authority.
---
At night, Isabella’s dreams grew darker. She saw Selene’s claws reaching for her belly, her laughter echoing in the forest.
Selene (in dream): “You cannot protect them. I will take them before they draw breath.”
She woke with a gasp, clutching her stomach, her eyes glowing gold. Her wolf stirred, fierce and protective.
Wolf Voice (within): Protect the pups. Hide them. Keep them safe.
---
The strain grew heavier. Isabella avoided Lucian’s touch, terrified he would sense the truth. She wore loose gowns, kept to shadows, and prayed the secret would remain hidden.
But Selene’s eyes were sharp. She watched Isabella with suspicion, her obsession deepening.
Selene (to herself): “She hides something. And when I find it, I will destroy it.”
---
Lucian punished another group of wolves who mocked Isabella, forcing them to kneel before her. His dominance was absolute, but Isabella’s heart raced. Every punishment drew more attention to her, more danger to the secret she carried.
Isabella (to herself): “If he knew… he would protect me. But protection means exposure. And exposure means Selene.”
---
The pack’s politics grew tense. Some wolves whispered loyalty to Selene, others bowed to Isabella reluctantly. The courtyard became a battlefield of glances and murmurs, every moment charged with suspicion.
Isabella felt the pressure mounting. Her wolf whispered constantly now, urging her to reveal the truth, to trust Lucian. But fear held her back.
---
Isabella stands alone in the courtyard, her hand pressed against her stomach, her wolf whispering fiercely within her. Selene watches from the shadows, her eyes gleaming with madness.
Selene (whispering): “Soon. Soon I will know. And when I do,prepare for your downfall Lunar cause I'll take your place tsk.”
