Mistress drew me into her office and squeezed both of my hands. “It’s time, dear. I know you won’t let me or the forests and rivers down. We must act now to stop the rot or it will be too late to heal the moon. You must reach Rohene and bring her to River Head. There you will find war and destruction but you may also find hope.”
Despite her breathtaking smile, my insides churned and withered. Almost I spilled my secret—I’d been intimate with Rohene and messed up the prophecy. “But? How do you know it’s time?” My mind raced, seeking a diversion. “I’ve heard she no longer lives in these parts. Maybe we can find another way?” Saying her name aloud caused me to blush and my heart to race. Against my will, her name spilled from my lips again. “Rohene, Rohene, Rohene.”
