Chapter2: An Angry morning

There was a long silence at the end of the call and somehow, it made Purple to become very nervous. Goodness! She had no idea who it was and inwardly prayed that it wasn't her land-lord, calling for his rent because she didn't even have a penny on her. It's been several months, since she last paid her house rent and her landlord was pressuring her for his rent. Purple literally had to hide and sneak into the house, almost every night, to avoid being seen by her landlord. Then, she would leave very early in the morning before he would show up. She was actually tired of giving him, several excuses all the time. "Hello...?", Purple called softly, since the silence was getting unbearable. "Sorry...I think I dialed the wrong number because of how hostile you sound? You're no fit for the job", a meek voice announced. "No...no,...! What do you mean? I don't understand what you mean ", Purple said nervously, while fidgeting. Purple's jaw dropped in shock at the realization of what had just happened to her. After being jobless for so long, she had written several applications to different places. From fashion houses, creative schools and even boutiques. Purple's application was literally everywhere. And now, she was speaking with one of those places and it only got worse because she was out rightly cold to the caller. Purple hissed softly under her breath, closed her eyes shut and muttered a frustrated slang, making sure that the caller didn't hear that. "I'm... I'm so sorry, who is this?", she managed to ask politely. Of what use was it now, to feign humility, when it was actually going to sound very fake? Still, Purple wasn't deterred. "Well, it's Glow fashion store in Newcastle way and we were just reviewing your application and actually, thought you were worthy of the position, you were applying for", the lady answered. This time, it was obvious that the lady was irritated at the way, Purple answered her phone earlier. Purple gulped softly and cringed her face, when she heard the lady's words, which felt like a piercing through her heart. She remembered how she had to put everything together with her best friend's old laptop, just to send her application, as she couldn't even afford visiting the cyber cafe. Glow fashion store was nothing compared to Madame Lena's fashion house but it was quite good as they also had beautiful designs and was still a dream. With her little experience, working with Madame Lena, Purple stood a chance to get employed to another fashion store, because Madame Lena was a signature on her own. So, a designer who was also responsible for fixing some designs for celebrities in Lena's store, was perceived as good enough. Everyone knew how high standards, Madame Lena was, so it was supposed to be a plus for Purple. Well, that was before she ruined it, with her early morning grumpiness. Purple took a deep breath and inwardly prayed that it wasn't real. "Oh hello! It's so nice to speak with you, ma'am", Purple said excitedly. "I wish I could say the same to you but I really can't. At least, not after such a harsh tone", the lady replied sharply. "Please... ma'am ", Purple tried to plead but she was abruptly interrupted. "No please! I'm not certain that I want to lead my team of designers with your kind of personality. I want to stand out in the fashion business and not chase potential clients away because of your saucy tone", the lady clarified. What? Purple couldn't believe what she had just heard. Did it mean that she was actually talking to the CEO of Glow Fashion? How can that be? How was she even going to plead and make amends over saucy tone? "I'm sorry, ma'am...I had a little frustration before you called and I really do apologize for it", she pleaded. "That's not enough reason to sound the way you did...", the lady retorted. "I know, ma'am and I truly apologize for my misconduct. I promise to do better. Please, don't call off my appointment ", Purple begged. "I'm sorry too. There is no way that you can be a part of my team. Have a great day ahead!", the lady said before ending the call. "Hello...? Hello...?", Purple called severally but her response was only the long beep at the end, signifying the end of the call. When she lowered the phone from her ear slowly, Purple let out a frustrated sigh and tears tinged at the back of her eyes. She slumped into the bed and glanced at the dressing mirror, where she smiled sadly at her reflection. "Just like that? Everything gone, just like that", Purple muttered aloud to herself, while wiping a bead of tear, from the corner of her eyes. In a time, that she was pressured with reoccurring debts and bills to pay, there came an opportunity and she just ruined it. Purple was actually tired of asking hand-outs from her best friend, almost every time. Though, Chantel wasn't complaining, Purple didn't still feel comfortable with it. She was beginning to feel like a shadow of herself and that didn't sit well with her. That was why, she stuck to the menial jobs. This was definitely not the best way to start her morning and she pinched herself, hoping that it was some sort of bad dream. Too bad, it wasn't and that hurt, more than anything she had been through in the past. What was she going to do now? It hasn't been an easy thing for her, surviving with little or nothing. And just when she almost got it, her behaviour just ruined it! "Have a great day...? Really? How is that even possible, with someone who can barely feed?", Purple said. "Now what do I do? This isn't happening to me", Purple panicked, while pacing anxiously round the room. Purple stopped quickly as a thought came across her mind and she wanted to call her best friend and relate everything to her Who knows? Chantel may have a plan, as she always does, most of the times, that she needed an advice.! Just as she was pacing all around, trying to dial her best friend, the doorbell rang loudly and it jerked her out of her thoughts, with a soft gasp, escaping from her lips. "Oh my goodness! What now? Can this end already?", Purple hissed loudly, but quickly held her mouth. Just few minutes ago, she lost an opportunity because of her grudgy self and it would be unforgiving, if she repeated it again. So, she had to hold it all in, no matter how irritated she was feeling already. Besides, her house wasn't a large house, so whoever was outside the door could hear her. First, she walked to the window to peep sneakingly but that didn't help as she couldn't even see who was at her door. Purple tried to take a deep breath, before walking to the door, but the doorbell rang again. So, almost immediately, Purple tossed her phone away and walked straight to the door, hoping it wasn't her landlord. She arranged her silky nightdress, making sure that it covered her large breasts and cleavage, from whoever it was. Being a very curvy plus size lady, Purple had to be very careful with her dresses, especially as she wasn't the type that loved to show all of her endowment. "Be calm, Purple!", she advised herself as her hand, grabbed the door knob. Slowly, Purple opened the door slowly, poking her face out of the door, to look cautiously at.the visitor. The faint smile on her face, was replaced with a slight frown when her eyes landed on who it was. Purple looked around carefully and back to the figure, which was standing right in front of her, to be sure. When it was obvious that there was no-one else, Purple's eyes darted back to the figure before her who was smiling warmly. It was Mrs Darcy, who was standing before her, looking all frail and tiny but smelling of fresh roses and vanilla milk. Unenthusiastically, Purple managed to smile lightly at the old lady, which was quite notorious for handing fresh buns to the neighbors. Inwardly, Purple wouldn't mind if the old lady would hand her a tray of freshly baked pasties, as she had nothing in her house, apart from an old pack of pizza, which was already looking soggy and a jar of cookies. But when she looked further and didn't see anything, in the old lady's hands, Purple became very curious. "Hi...Mrs Darcy? Good morning!", she drawled quietly. "Hi darling! How are you doing this morning?", Mrs Darcy replied with a warm smile. "Okay...? Please, do you need anything!", Purple asked impatiently. "No I don't! Actually...yes I do!", the old lady stammered. Purple wiggled her eyebrows, thoughtfully, while she wondered which of the answers, she was going to take. She stared at the old lady who was taking her time to give her response and that was so exhausting. "I'm sorry... please, have you seen my cat? She's been missing all night and yet to return", Mrs Darcy asked. At that point, Purple didn't even know what to do. If she should get angry and close her door or just laugh it out. However, she couldn't stand to break the old lady's heart, so she managed to force a smile on her face. "No, Mrs Darcy! I haven't seen your cat anywhere...", she answered with relief.
