I forced a smile at Jake and Bernard, feeling the weight of the moment. “Excuse me for a moment,” I said, my voice light. “I just remembered that Sandra wanted me to call her.”
Without waiting for a response, I turned on my heel and left the office, shutting the door behind me with a firm click. Once I was alone in my room, I sank onto the bed, anger bubbling just below the surface. I couldn’t believe it. After all my efforts, Alyssa had deceived me.
I grabbed my phone and initiated a video call with the twins, Sofia and Sandra. When their faces appeared on the screen, I barely held back the frustration in my voice.
