Chapter Three

1454 Words
Siara's POV I kept praying until the footsteps came closer, and I summoned up the courage to turn around. I saw the only person who had cared about me for the past five years, and my eyes immediately lit up. "Hey handsome," I called to him and ran to scatter his already scattered hair more. He glared at me playfully while still smiling. "I know that I am super handsome and all, but you can't mess up my hair because of jealousy," Noah said. Noah is my aunt's only son and also the last child. He is super narcissistic sometimes, but he has the right to be because he already has some killer features at the age of twelve. He is the only one alive that I can call family, and he is always ready to lend me a helping hand. “Are you done cooking?" Noah asked while still trying to fix his scattered hair with his hands. "I have made every dish except Nicole's chicken soup," I replied, looking out the window to observe the day's brightness. "They will definitely be up early today," he said while looking worriedly at me. "What! Is there anything special happening today?" I exclaimed in a hushed voice and asked. "Well, I heard mom talking about Jasper coming over today to see Simone since it's been a while," he said with an annoyed look. Jasper is Simone's mate, but he is a big-time playboy. We were all wondering if the mate bond doesn't have any effect on him, as it is supposed to be so strong that he will feel repulsed when sensually touched by someone other than his mate. But we were all so shocked when Simone confessed that he had refused to mark her and had never touched her. His reason for this, according to Simone, is that he is still too young and deserves to have as many women as possible before dedicating his whole life to a mate. He always comes here all in the name of seeing Simone, but all he does is eat our food, make up a stupid excuse, and then leave. It has become some kind of routine too. Despite all of these, Simone still has hope of him repenting and accepting her wholeheartedly. "Get the lamp from the kitchen, and let's go to the backyard for the chicken," Noah said. I immediately fast-walked to the kitchen and came back with the lamp, a knife, and a bowl. Then we walked out of the house together. As soon as we got to the backyard, Noah immediately picked up a mature chicken, slashed its neck with the knife, and threw it into the bowl in my hands. Then we went back into the house. I started preparing the ingredients for the soup while Noah helped me remove the feathers from the chicken and cut them into pieces. In no time, the soup was cooked and placed on the dining table. "And here is a little thank-you gift for my favorite brother and partner in the whole universe," I said, and I handed Noah a plate of chicken that I secretly stewed in tomato sauce. I could already see him literally drooling when he saw it. If he had already shifted, he would have been able to perceive the aroma when I was making it. Thanks to the Moon goddess that I am done with cooking, because, as soon as I finished washing the plate, Noah used to eat the treat that I made him, my aunt and Alaric walked out of their room, and as if it were planned, my cousin sisters also walked out of their rooms at the same time. "Little Jinx, is everything ready?" My aunt asked, and I just gave her an affirmative nod. "Hope you made everything well? I am expecting a very important guest," Simone said while glaring at me. I nearly rolled my eyes at her. Jasper comes here to freeload at least three times a week, and she still calls him a guest. I sometimes find it ridiculous how she keeps hoping and waiting for him to become a better and more responsible person. I still remember the day she came back home after her mating ceremony. She said he told her to go home first and that he would come to pick her up in style. She literally danced home and waited throughout the day for him, but he didn't come that day or even the next. It was on the third day that he came and told her that he wasn't ready for such a huge responsibility and that he needed time to come to terms with it. That was how days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and months turned into years. Simone has been home for the past three years despite having a mate. "Go freshen up, girls," my aunt said, and her daughters immediately returned to their rooms to freshen up. "Hey Jinx, go to that wretched room of yours and clean up that foul stench that is emanating from that wretched body of yours," she said with so much disgust in her eyes, and I could see Alaric smirking at me. I just turned around without a word and went to my room. It is not really a room, to be precise, but it is where I have been sleeping for the past five years. It is a small, abandoned storeroom that can be easily mistaken for a closet. My aunt found it useful when I moved in with them, despite having three vacant rooms in the house. I entered the room and walked towards the half-broken mirror, which was standing close to my flat bedbug-infested bed. I actually got this bed from my aunt when I came down with a severe flu from sleeping on the bare floor. I looked at myself in the mirror and couldn't stop admiring the beauty in front of me. I loosened my hair, and it fell to the length of my knee. I can still remember when my mom used to take care of my hair every day. My hair was originally ankle-length, but it was cut short by my cousin sisters out of jealousy a few months after I started living with them. I quickly wiped myself clean and wore one of Nicole's old gowns, which I picked up from the dump outside the house, then washed it. My aunt has never bought me any clothes for the past five years. I always pick up the old clothes that Nicole and Simone throw out. The gown fits me perfectly, considering that I have a better figure than Nicole. I decided not to tie up my hair and just let it down. I admired myself in the mirror before stepping out of the room. Not like I am joining them to eat or anything, but to serve them food and drinks, then stand aside till they need me to refill their plates or cups again. As I approached the dining area, I could already hear Jasper's voice and, as usual, fill Simone's head with sweet words. Then I heard Simone giggling like a dimwit, as usual. "Hey jinx! Can't you see we have been waiting for you to serve us?" My aunt yelled as soon as she saw me. Then I saw her looking at my outfit with resentment. "And where are you going all dressed up like that?" She asked, looking irritated, and I could also see my cousins shooting venom at me with their eyes out of jealousy. "Honey, we have a guest," Alaric said to her, and she immediately changed her vicious appearance to a docile and angelic one. Sometimes I wonder if she was a chameleon in her previous life. "Come and serve everyone; I am dying of starvation," Nicole said, and I almost rolled my eyes at her. She is a month older than I am, but she is much smaller in stature and also very thin. I chuckled in my mind as I wondered where all the nutritious food she had been eating over the years had gone. I walked towards the table to start serving, and I could feel a hot gaze on me, but I already knew it was the good-for-nothing playboy, Jasper. He usually stares at me like a p*****t but has never spoken a word to me. "You have a killer figure, the type I love so much," he suddenly said, and when I looked at him, I saw how shocked he was, probably because he just blurted it out unconsciously. I looked at Simone, and her face was already red from anger. I am so dead!
