Siara's POV
“This is definitely not how I imagined my death” Laxmi said, my thoughts exactly.
Suddenly, an arrow came flying from nowhere and went directly through the head of one of the vampires. This caused the other vampires to be distracted, and we made a run for it.
“No matter what happens don't leave my hand” Laxmi said as we ran for our dear lives.
“I am tired of running” Preeta complained and stopped.
“Do you want to die here?!” Disha yells at her angrily while trying to free her hands from her grasp.
“Are you going to abandon me?” Preeta asked, refusing to let go.
What a group of selfish friends. They would rather see others die with them than be alive without them.
“I don't want to die!” Disha yelled again, but she still wouldn't let her go.
“Please Preeta, I don't want to die”, she starts begging with tears streaming down her cheeks.
“ Let go of her, Preeta!” I yelled at her too, when I saw the vampires running towards us from the other side.
“Why are you meddling? We are friends even in death” she said annoyingly and still refused to let go of her hand.
“Sia, let's go”, Laxmi said, and we started running away from there, to find a hiding place.
“Please don't leave me” Disha begged behind us, but there was nothing we could do.
I would have helped, but I could see the hesitation to leave her friend behind in her eyes. Trying to convince her to leave Preeta behind would take time and that's what we don't have right now.
“Ahhhhh!!”
Their screams filled the air and I subconsciously looked back and saw that the vampires were already attacking them.
Their screams eventually died down, signifying their death.
We saw an empty caravan and took shelter in it. We hid behind a stack of sacks.
“Are you okay?” Laxmi asked and I just hugged her.
It's times like this that you know who really cares about you genuinely. We stay in each other's embrace.
I suddenly remembered that Nagas could hide their scent. For the first time in my life, I felt very happy that i wasn't eighteen yet. Because the werewolf scent is very faint on me now, as I haven't shifted yet. It would have been very easy for the vampires to find us if I had shifted.
“Do you think we will survive?” Laxmi asked suddenly, and I really couldn't give her an answer.
I looked at her and the amulet on her neck caught my attention. Lucinda also gave me one, and she said to tap on it twice if we needed her help or were in trouble.
“Tap on your amulet”, I told her, but she seemed confused.
“Lucinda said to tap twice when we need her help”, I explained, and she took the amulet in her hand.
“I thought she just made that up for fun”, Laxmi replied, and we both tapped the amulets twice.
After tapping, we looked around, but there was no sign of Lucinda, and we started thinking maybe she was just joking about it.
“Sia, Mimi” came Lucinda's voice from outside the caravan, followed by the sound of footsteps.
“Cinda” I called out when I smelled her unique scent of herbs.
“ Are you guys okay?” She walks over and engulfs us in a tight hug.
“We are fine” I replied, but at this moment, two vampires entered the caravan.
Lucinda quickly waved her wand and teleported us to the basement of Laxmi’s house.
“I love you guys so much” I said, and we share an emotional group hug.
“I am so glad you are OK” Said Aunt Sriti as she joined the group hug.
“ The vampires have broken the peace treaty and everyone has been ordered to return to their kingdoms”, Laxmi’s Dad announces when we have settled down.
“ I think they are going to attack all the villages where other creatures reside” he said sadly.
“What are they going to gain from killing innocent people?” Laxmi asks angrily.
“They must be doing it to send a message to the other kingdoms, they want to showcase their powers” Lucinda explained, and we just sighed sadly.
“Let's eat everyone” Aunt Sriti said, and served the food, but no one had an appetite.
“Cinda, won't you inform your parents?” She asked Lucinda.
“My parents were summoned to Celesterra by the Queen”, Lucinda replied.
“They took my little brothers along” she said and forced herself to eat a little bit.
I also forced myself to eat as I really needed the energy after the life and death encounter of today.
“Dad, why are we in the basement?” Laxmi asked, and her question also made me curious.
“The vampires are attacking the villages in Moonshire. They moved all their people to the capital this morning, so only those from other kingdoms remain. There is no guarantee that we will not be attacked by them”, he patiently explained.
“We just want to be on the safe side” Aunt Sriti added, and we all nodded in understanding.
A few hours later, we were ready to sleep when a commotion broke out in the village. It seems Laxmi’s parents were right after all.
“This attack won't be like any that we have experienced before” Aunt Sriti said.
“We are not being attacked by newborn vampires but by the King's warriors” Laxmi’s dad said after surveying the commotion outside.
“This is crazy” I said angrily.
“It's like they want to kill everyone in the village” Laxmi said with fear evident in her voice.
“They are moving from house to house, so let's all keep quiet” her dad instructed.
It wasn't long before we heard the sound of footsteps above us. We all stayed quiet and tried to breathe as faintly as possible.
After a while of searching, the footsteps retreated, and we all breathed a sigh of relief.
“Oh my Gosh, Noah” I whispered worriedly.
“I would have gone to bring him here, but I don't know if he is at home or not” Lucinda said while comforting me.
“Don't worry dear, he will be fine” Aunt Sriti said. I knew they were just trying to console me.
We stayed up until daybreak. Laxmi’s dad went out of the basement to look outside before asking us to come out as it was safe.
When we stepped out of the house, we were welcomed by a terrifying site. There were dead bodies everywhere, some were familiar while some weren't. There were also bodies of dead vampires, as some villagers must have put up a fight.
“I want to go and check if Noah is OK”, I announced.
“Why don't you wait till afternoon, let's be sure they won't return to check for survivors” Aunt Sriti suggested, but I was determined to go check on Noah now.
“I will go with her, so it will be faster” Lucinda said, and I looked at her gratefully.
She held my hand and, with a wave of her wand, teleported us to the outside of my aunt's house.
I looked at the widely opened door and gulped in fear of what I might see.
“Let's just go in and check” Lucinda said and pulled me into the house.
As soon as we stepped into the house, we saw the incomplete dead bodies of my Aunt and her husband, Alaric, on the ground. They were literally ripped apart.
I stood there frozen in fear. I don't know what I will do if I find Noah in the same condition.
