Chapter Eight
Rain’s POV Continued.
Me and my team made it to her just in time, as she was trying to escape whatever hell she had just gone through with what looked like her mother. But, god did this old hag smell different. My wolf began to stir and shake with fury underneath my skin trying to claw his way out of me to shift. I motioned to my team who had come with me to wait. I didn’t want to scare Elle after all and if I could smell that Elle’s mother was off so could they. Why didn’t Elle smell like her?
When I saw her go down by the car I knew I had to get to her, my wolf moved my legs quicker then I could mentally keep up. I just had to get to her if anything happened before he could at least tell her what was between them he’d never be able to forgive himself. As I caught her under her arms and swept her up I couldn’t help but feel the tingles as our skin touched. I leaned towards her head inhaling her scent, “I’ve got you angel.” That was all I could say.
Then suddenly I felt a crack over my head. I vaguely remember hearing the breaking of bones and wolves descending on me and Elle, it was my team coming in to protect us. But, protect us from what? I couldn’t see anything and needed to let my wolf's eyes take over in order to get Elle the hell out of this fight. There was bright light and suddenly fire surrounding us. We were cornered and we had no viable escape options. But, I held Elle firmly in my hands. I wasn't letting her go.
Leave us a booming voice came from the flames around us. Leave us at once and let us leave. You have no idea who she is or what we are running from. We must leave and we must leave now!
My wolves instinct was to f**k who ever this was who wanted my mate up but, luckily my more diplomatic skills took over. “Forgive us but you have no idea who I am and what we are.” “I’m Alpha Rain from The Crescent Shifter pack. Elle is my mate and whatever trouble she's in we can protect her from.” As the flames die down around us, I can hear the snarling of my wolves around us. I still can only see through my wolves eyes. Standing before us is Elle’s mother Ann who is a small woman in frame but the look she is giving us could kill us all.
“Give my daughter back, put her down slowly or the next person to make a move will make their last move.”
My grip tightens even more so onto Elle who has not stirred once during this entire thing. What the hell happened to her? I try to put on my best smile. I step forward with Elle but make a motion for my pack wolves to stand down. Looking down at Erin and my beta Darin and Max , Phoenix, and Jack. They don’t want to, but they do as I say anyway.
“Listen, like I was saying this woman in my arms whom I’m assuming is your daughter is my mate, now she doesn’t know that yet but I plan on telling her and spending every moment I can with her if she’ll have me. We are mates for life, which also means you are part of the family.” “ You’re witches aren’t you?” “We want to help you. There was a time long ago when witches and wolves worked together.”
At this point Ann is still standing with her hands in this triangle shape towards me looking like she could cast a spell at any moment. Looking at me judging me, with a look of almost as if you aren’t good enough for her. I’m nervous. I f*****g hate this. But, I’m not giving up on Elle. No way.
Taking a deep breath Ann looks at me again with those piercing eyes of hers. “How do I know this mate business is f*****g real? You could just be trying to take her for her power.”
I swallow hard. There was so much I didn't know about my mate. I opened my mouth to answer when we heard rustling in the woods. I mind linked with my boys and told them to take cover. Shadows engulfed us and the only thing we could hear were whispers `Come Ann come back to me let’s finish this.” In a sickening voice. This was not a fight I was ready for and I wouldn’t lose any wolves to a witch war. Looking at Ann who had stood tall ready to take aim at what was coming next I shouted.
“Let’s get the f**k out of here, fight later live today. You can ride on my beta Darin. He'll get you to where you need to go, but we need to leave now.” Looking at me like she’d rather die than accept help she finally relented.
“We’re heading to the witch covens of the woods. Do you know where that is?”
“Yes I do.”
Hopping on top of Darin we all get the f**k out of there as quickly as possible. Whatever this threat is we are not ready to fight it just yet.
