“Are you sure she’s alright?”
“She’s fine. Look, she was now opening her eyes.”
I slowly opened my eyes and the first thing that greeted me was a luxurious ceiling that was painted with clouds and the upper part of the bookshelves, which contained ancient books. I also hear some commotions at my side and a set of different voices.
“Xandriel, how are you feeling?” I slowly turned my head towards the voice. It was Janus.
I stared at him, trying to recall what had happened. Then I remember Raphael, he held my hand and then everything turned black. I jerked my head to look for Zadkiel and he was standing a little far away from me. There was a kind smile on his face. And then my gaze landed on Raphael, who was still standing in the corner of the room.
“What happened?” I asked Janus as I hoisted myself up.
“You fainted. It's because your body was overwhelmed with too much power that flowed into you.” It was Zadkiel who answered me.
“Is that so?” I meekly replied.
“But, that’s not all. There is some other reason for that.”
Janus and I looked at Raphael when he started to talk. He was now stalking towards us with a frown on his handsome face. He looked troubled. That gave off the idea that whatever it was he was going to say would be anything but good.
“Did you know that the blood in your veins is from Belial?”
Zadkiel jerked his head towards Raphael upon hearing what he said. There was a shocked expression on his face. I was even shocked. I can also assume that Janus too. Even though I really couldn’t understand the words Raphael was saying. Belial? Who's that?
“I know you have plenty of questions right now. But this is not the place to know all of that.” Raphael started to walk to the door and opened it.
“Come.” Zadkiel followed suit. So, Janus and I decided to just follow. This time, it was Janus who was holding my hand and assisting me as we walked side to side.
Once again, we walked through the corridor that was framed by huge columns. We then stopped in front of a huge door. When Raphael opened the door, I was surprised. I felt the sudden vertigo. The door was not like the one we entered before. Inside there was darkness, and a flicker of lights that looked like a star in the galaxy. Janus followed closely behind me and Zephyr behind us. When I look back at the door, I find it gone. Missing.
The door. Where is the door? I was in that confusion that I failed to see what was really in front of me. When I went in, the first thing that my eyes set on was the huge sphere in the middle of the room and a group of angels was circling around it.
“Tronus,” Raphael called in the darkness.
One of the angels surrounding him looked at the archangel. He was wearing a blue silk and his wings almost shined because of its pure white color. That is when I also get a glimpse of the sphere. It was not some ordinary sphere. In the sphere, there was a different set of brown lines and there was a huge part that was in the color blue. It looks familiar. It looks like Earth. Or maybe it is Earth.
“Raphael and Zadkiel? What are the archangels doing here?” There was something in Tronus’ voice when he spoke, but I just can’t pinpoint what.
“We just had something to explain to Xandriel. You knew her, right?” The latter angel looked at me with regards.
“Xandriel Escobal, daughter of Rabia Escobal from a demon. The child was given a second chance and was being guarded by an archangel. The one prophesied to carry the Nephlim on earth. Tronus answered with a serious tone. It was as if he had memorized the words for a long time.
To say that I was shocked was an understatement. I was bewildered. What is he saying? Second chance? Prophesied? He knows my mother. And what, I’m a daughter of a demon? My mind was trying to understand everything but refusing it at the same time.
“Tronus, can you explain it more broadly? Xandriel is getting more and more confused.” Zadkiel, once again, placed his hands on my shoulder. Relief instantly flowed down from my shoulder to my body.
Tronus stare at me. He nodded his head in understanding. He looked back at the angels circling the sphere. They vanished in front of my very eyes. When Tronus looked back at me again, he was now reaching his hands to me, palm facing upward. Unsure, I looked at Janus, who was still standing beside me and was holding my arms. He was just looking at Tornus and there was no emotion on his face. Then I turned to Raphael, he gave me an encouraging nod. Next was Zadkiel, who was smiling at me. With that, I took Tornus’ hand.
I was expecting to feel the different sensation that I felt when I held hands with the archangels, but I was disappointed. Tronus’ hand was not like that. I don’t feel anything. I think it was only applicable to the archangels.
“You are now standing in front of the universe that was created by God.”
I was pulled out of my reverie when I heard Tronus speak beside me. We are now standing side by side in front of the sphere.
“Now, I will show you your life.” Tronus motioned his hands.
“*KELEUSMA!”
The earth started to spin and our surroundings seemed to change. The spinning sphere stopped for a moment and it cut itself in half. Like a book, the sphere sucked us in. My vision was covered in haze and everything zoomed in. After a few seconds, everything went still. We are now in a different place, a different dimension. Below us, I see people walking to and fro to their destinations.
I know this place. It was Mamang’s favorite go-to place. There she is and… who is that?
Not far from where we are, I saw Mamang with some guy. They were walking and talking happily and in love. I stared at the guy and saw some resemblance of me on his features. Could he be…?
“He is your father, Xandriel.” Before I could even say it out loud, Tronus confirmed it for me.
“He is the only man your mother has ever loved,” Tornus continued. I stayed quiet and listened to him.
“But he’s not a human. He was a demon. Lucifer’s envoy.”
When Tornus finished what he was saying, the place once again zoomed in and changed into different scenery. I can only see the man who was with Mamang earlier. He was standing as he waited for himself to transform. I witnessed how his form changed from that of a human being to something else. His fangs grew and became more prominent and sharper. His face, too, was changing and there were some weird markings that were showing. Even his eyes, change in appearance and color. He looks scary.
He's, my father? No, that can’t be! I don’t have a father like that.
“Rabia did not know about this truth. Your mother became a target because of her strong faith. They were trying to sway her away from it.”
I continue to listen to Tronus, or at least tried to. My mind still can't grasp the situation. I strongly refuse this.
“The demons always try to seduce people to give up their faith. To do bad things and sever the ties they had with Him.” It was Zadkiel who continued what Tronus was saying.
“Your mother got pregnant with you without a husband and going through a ceremony. She got controlled by Belial. By the time she had realized it, it was already too late.” Tronus said.
Hearing that, everything that My Mamang had gone through. All the hardships of raising a child without someone at her side, all the pain she must’ve endured just to raise a child out of violation. How humiliating that might be, how stressful. Anger was bubbling inside of me. I was mad. I was confused. How can they let that happen? How could they say this story to me without feeling an ounce of guilt? They let my mom be a victim of a demon. They leave her. They are angels for pete’s sake! How can He let that be?
