"Angels are known to be God’s soldiers. Akin to soldiers, angels also had their own ranks; Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominions, Virtues, Powers, Archangels, Principalities, Angels, and Fallen Angels. These ranks have their own specific role and job. Seraphim, the six-winged angels, and the burning ones. They are the guardians of God’s Throne. Two of their wings are used to cover their face, two are to cover their feet and the last two remaining are used to flying. Cherubim, the four-faced and four-winged angel that has intimate knowledge of God and continually praises Him. They were the guardians of God’s glory. They symbolized God’s power and mobility. Thrones, the access of the lower angels to God. They are the angels of pure humility, peace, and submission. They resided in the area of the Cosmos, where materials begin to take shape. Dominions, the angel of Leadership. They are the ones to control the duties of every angel or most commonly known as God’s command. Virtues, the Spirit of Motions or referred to as the Shining Ones. They control the elements; seasons, stars, the moon, even the sun. They are also in charge of miracles and provide courage, grace, and valor. Powers, the Warrior Angels. They defend Cosmos and humans against evil. They are known to be powerful rulers. They fight the evil spirits who attempt to wreak chaos on human beings. Archangels, the Leading Angels. They have a unique role as God’s messenger to the people. Archangels consist of seven powerful angels known to be guardian angels and protectors. Principalities, the Fallen Angels. Angels are the closest to the material world. This includes Personal Guardian Angels. They are the deliverers of payers to God and God’s message to humans. They are the most caring and social to assist someone who asks for help." +++ “Wow! They are awesome!” Simultaneous cries of the children after I read the last part of the Book of Angels. “How many times have I read this to you, guys? And you always had that same reaction.” I jokingly smiled at them. Micah, one of the kids, suddenly stood up from the floor to answer me. “Because they were really awesome and cool!” She said as she rearranged her cap that was falling down her head. I walked over to where she was standing and crouched down. I helped her arrange the string of the cap to help it keep in place. “That is why you need to pray for your angels. Always. So that they won’t get tired of doing their jobs for you.” They all said their agreement in unison. That made me smile. “Come on, let’s pray.” I resumed my position in the front. The children followed and stood up, but some of them couldn’t and I didn’t mind. “In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. God, we thank you for all the blessings that you have given us. We seek absolution for all the sins that we have done. May you bless these children to have enough courage and strength, so they will not give up in life. That they would be able to overcome this hardship, this sickness…” from my position, I looked around to see the kids, their palms clasped together, heads bowed and solemnly uttering their prayers. “Angel of God, my guardian dear. To whom God's love commits me here. Ever this day be at my side. To light and guide. To rule and guard. Amen.” We all pray in unison. “Kids, the snacks are ready.” Sister Maverick announced, which made the children so excited that most of them ran outside. Except for Micah. “*Ate Xandy, are you going to stay long?” she asked me with that innocent face she had. I really want to spend a few more minutes here. If it weren’t for Janus, who was waiting for me outside, I would really have loved to say yes. “I’m so sorry, Micah. Janus was waiting for me outside. And we had things to do after that. But I promise that I will next time.” Micah’s face suddenly turned upside down and that made me want to take back what I said, but I know I can’t. Before I even coax her the next time, she suddenly smiles sweetly. “You promise? I’m going to hold you to that!” She ran outside after saying those words to me. Before she could even step outside the room, she waved, which I answered with another wave and smile. I shake my head. Micah was a strange child. Not the bad kind of strange, but out of all the kids in here she was kind of special. I just can’t pinpoint why. After I double-checked the room to make sure that everything was clean and organized, I walked out of the room. I met Sister Maverick who had just come out of the kitchen where the kids were having their snacks. “Are you going now?” She asks me with a smile. Just like the ones a nun would give to children. “Yes, Sister. I still have things to do. Besides, Janus had been waiting for me for a long time.” She suddenly smiles as if there’s a thought that passed her mind. “Okay. I will not bother you anymore. You guys, take care, okay? And tell Janus that he should come inside sometimes. It’s not as if he was banned from entering this place.” We both smiled at that. After a quick goodbye, I leave the place. As I neared Janus’ location, I saw him seriously talking to a girl. Janus had his forehead creased. I can count on my fingers how many times Janus gets serious. It was very rare. Seeing his handsome face gets so serious- wait, did I say handsome? No. No, I didn’t say that. I just said face. Just face. “Xandy! Xandy!” I snapped out of my trance when I heard Janus’ voice calling me. The girl he was talking to earlier was already gone and now he was standing before me. I got the hint that he had been standing there for a long time because of his weird smile. So, I tried to change the subject. “Is that your girlfriend? You should have at least introduced me.” Yeah, way to change the subject. I don’t know why I feel so pissed. Maybe because I have been seeing him with different kinds of girls and I haven’t met one of them. I really don’t know. And I don’t want to know. Ever. “You know what? If I just didn’t consider you as my best friend, I would really think that you liked me. Well, do you?” He teased and laughed. He stopped his laughter after a few minutes, but he was still smirking. “No way! I don’t like you!” To fully prove my point, I punched him lightly on the shoulder. Well, do you? My mind keeps replaying those words. Do I really like him? Maybe? I do? My mind might refuse to admit it, but I know my heart knows it all too well. I do like him. “Let’s go! We still have to attend to our Council Duty.” I walked past him so he would not read the answer to his question on my face. Janus was one of those people who could read me like an open book. Who am I kidding? Every person who knows me reads me like an open book. I sighed. My mind was overthinking again. “Why do we still have to go to school during summer? It was summer! We need to enjoy ourselves and take a break!” Janus complained. I can’t blame him though, because he was one of those people who like to take a break all the time. “Because, Mister Steban, we have a new principal. She’ll be coming on the first day of class, so we only have this time to make some preparations,” I explained. Even though I fully agree with Janus there. “Besides, nobody pushed you to be the Peace Relation Officer of the Student Council,” I added. “Oh! Yeah, nobody pushed me. It’s just that some person asked me to and I was kind enough to say yes.” I grimaced at his accusing tone. “We are short-staffed. You can’t blame me entirely. I was just doing what I'd been told to do,” I said. Janus just shook his head. He knows that he can’t win against me. Even though Janus had this playful personality, he really would let me feel special. Maybe that is the reason why I like – don’t. Go. There. Janus and I continue walking in silence going to the jeep station. We are in a comfortable silence, but it quickly ends when a terrifying scene unfolds before us, as well as the other pedestrians in the area. A cyclist on his bike was hit by a truck multiple times. It was gruesome and that stunned me and the others around me. I was rooted to the spot. I could hear shrieks from all over the place. Then I heard the siren of the police. That’s when I took the time to scan my surroundings. I saw Janus standing at the victim’s side. He was taken to the police. “Miss, can we invite you to the station as a witness?” There was a guy who came up to me and called my attention. He must be a Detective. I looked at the victim again, he was now being carried away on a stretcher to the ambulance but Janus was no longer there. Where is he? My mind refuses to process everything that has happened before me. “Miss?” I looked again at the detective. “Yes. Yes.” Is what I said. That is all I can say. I scanned the place once again, looking for Janus. I saw some people were being directed to a police car, possibly like me, who was going to the precinct as a witness. I pulled out my phone and typed a message for Janus. I’ll be going to the police station as a witness. Where are you? I was now sitting in the patrol car. All the while, still thinking if what I saw was real. How can a person do that to another being?
