I was sure the conversation was going nowhere. If she wanted to tell me, she would do it already. I could only nod. I went through everything again and then grabbed my bag. We looked at each other as we both knew that it was time to leave. I led her through the back door to the bar instead of going through the alley. Originally, I wanted to check if the door was locked, but after finding out it was unlocked, I knew somebody was still in there. I hoped to see the bartender or the usual customers. I wanted everything like a few hours before. Maybe my steps were revealing my mind. I felt a hand on my shoulder and a silent whisper. “Let's go.” Her words made me straighten my back and walk more confidently.
