Slowly, with breath hitched, I turned, the color leaving my skin. “Wh-What do you mean?” My voice shook, word barely audible as the breath left my lungs. Internally, I trembled. Hopefully it was only internally. Sam glanced at everyone else around, before rising to his feet. “Let's go somewhere more private.” When he started moving, my legs followed, though I wasn't sure, till this day, how they managed to move. Soon we were out and in front of where his car was parked. “What do you mean?” I repeated, ignoring how shaky it came out. “I don't have the right evidence to prove this now, but I'm sure the child is mine. He just has to be.” Sam had his forehead scrunched as he spoke. A wave of relief washed over me as I realized he wasn't speaking out of certainty. Just an assumption
