I stood facing them straight on, and my eyes burned red in an instant, my heart trembling so hard I could barely contain it. Javier slowly picked up the steel nail that had fallen to the floor with his forceps. Under the harsh glow of the incandescent lamp, blood slid slowly down the length of the nail. It pooled at the sharp tip, thick and glistening. At that moment, it felt like my own body was starting to fade, turning see-through right where I stood. All at once, the blood of my old partners who'd embedded themselves deep within the HS organization seemed to merge with mine again.
