Kael's POV Three days after she left I hadn't slept properly in any of them. I was at the breakfast table with a newspaper I wasn't reading when Rowena walked in. She had her composure arranged the way she always did when she'd decided to say something reasonable, and she sat across from me and waited until the staff had cleared the room before she began. "If there's a woman," she said, "and I'm not saying there is, you need to be careful. The Silvercrest alliance is not something we can afford to compromise.
