Chapter 19-2

875 Words

When I was discharged, Kael drove me back to the cabin. Classes started again before the Solstice break was even properly over. In the second week of term, after the last period on a Tuesday, I checked my phone at the school gate and saw a post on Ronan's feed. He had been smart about it, no direct footage, just crowd shots from outside the venue. But I watched it enough times to piece together what I needed to. Kael was there, a wine glass in hand, immaculate in his suit. Corinna was beside him in a deep green gown, her head tilting toward him as she spoke. The guests kept circling their table. Toasts, one after another. I had been to functions like this with him before, a few times over the months. He always handled them the same way, composed, unhurried, every movement controlled.
