"Why won't you admit it?
"Kael? Still awake?" Rowena's voice, light and enquiring, followed by a knock on the door across the hall.
A moment of silence.
Kael was distracted, his head turned to the door and when he turned back, I suddenly grabbed his collar and without thinking, I kissed him.
The shock made him gasp and I only took advantage, sucking on his soft lips and for a moment he didn't resist.
It was clumsy and sudden and nothing like I had imagined, a rush of warmth and the faint taste of tobacco and then his hands came up hard on my shoulders.
His grip tightened. He was going to push me away.
