By the time winter arrived, I had forgotten what it felt like to have nothing to do.
Credits, rehearsals, shifts at the bar, a small mountain of coursework that didn't care how tired I was, I moved through all of it at a pace that left no room for thinking too hard about anything else, which was more or less the point.
I had become the band's lead singer somewhere in October, partly because Remi had decided it for me before I'd had a chance to object, and partly because the pay was real and the rent on my single dorm room was not cheap and I was determined not to touch Kael's money or take help from the Fosters.
