Chapter 2

One week later...

"We must get back home alpha, I don't like these woods" said Zaine

" You know for a courageous beta, you are quite the coward" I say nudging my beta in the guy," but I have to admit these woods are giving of weird vibes" I finally admitted,my wolf was also acting up a bit

"Mark, do you hear that?" My beta said, and yes I heard it indeed, more like felt it

" Yes I did what is thst?" I asked as I ran towards the sound with him, we stopped by some thick bushes and the sound became a cry , a wolf was out there, from my pack to be exact

" It's female" Zaine said

We moved closer and saw the wolf curled up in agony and crying out in pain

" Zaine " I said and he rushed towards it and tried to comfort it , I got close and it felt like my wolf did a backflip inside of me, it was happy for some reason

I held her in my arms and watched her closely waiting for her to do something, but she didn't,she just cried softly, before I put her down she shifted back feeling too weak to be in her form again, her clothes were a mess and barely covered her but she didn't seem to care, after a while she looked at me for a while eyes wide and stunned,then she passed out

" Alpha!" Zaine yelled

" Let's get her back to the pack she's not good" I said to him, he nodded and took her from me before shifting to wolf form and running towards the mansion I shifted and followed suit, just then my wolf whispered " mate" and I froze " what?, are you kidding me right now" I ask rex my wolf

But he growls and repeats himself " mate, mine!!!"

" My second chance mate?, could this be?" I thought inwardly before hurrying home

" How is she?" I ask Matthew the healer who had been attending to the stray wolf that Rex keeps calling mate

" She was bruised up bad, a little fracture in the rib cage and some other bruises on the legs, but in a matter of time she will be fine" he said, I exhaled sharply thankful for the news

" Can I see her?" I ask politely

" Of course you can, Alpha" he says moving out of the way to let me through

I open up the door and meet her lying face up to the ceiling motionless

My wolf whines in pity, he wants to leave my body and hold her till she's okay, but I feel only pity because I don't know this beautiful lady though bruised up

" Hey, can I sit" I ask , she tilts her head and watches me closely, her face reddens a little and she nods slightly, I take a seat next to her bed and watch her closely

" Good evening alpha " she manages to say

" Skip the formalities, can we talk" I ask with a smile, she nods

" What's your name young lady?" I ask

" I'm Ruby, Ruby verman" she says looking away from me

" What happened to you, in the woods?" I had to ask

" Ugh... I ...ugh...I was on the run from my ugh, mate " she said, my heart felt pierced really deep and my wolf was ready to kill any man that hurt her like this

" Your mate?" I asked

" Ex mate actually, dude rejected me for my sister, and lied against me" she said

" What did you just say?" I asked not hiding my anger

" You heard me alpha, but there's no problem it's how men can be, I just hope my sister doesn't regret it" she said, I couldn't help but admire her acting skills wasn't she just crying in the forest , I couldn't help but laugh

" And how did you get beaten up, and thrown out" I asked her watching as she blushed

" Ugh.. he says he doesn't trust me that I'm a..

" Alpha Mark !" I heard a voice call out,it was my brother " Jack what are you doing here today the party is tomorrow " I asked the white haired lunatic I called a brother

" I heard you found a wolf in the woods, is she pretty?" He asked obviously trying to piss me off

" I feel like your here for her not me brother" I say

" What no I just wanted to make you both smile" he said

" Cool" I told him

" Now beautiful, what on earth happened to you " Jack had to ask her , she sighed heavily before filling him in on the news , I watched them chat for a while and I had to admit I was jealous a little

" All done?" I asked them

" Ughm yes we are" she says looking innocently at me she was cute though

"Do you want to go back to him though?" Jack asked her

" Never!" We both answered at the same time, I looked at her shocked and she did so too before looking away shyly

" How is the she doing?" My beta said as he walked in ,

" She's alright " I said to him, I had told him about how my wolf thinks we are second chance mates and he really didn't know what to say at the time

-Have you told her yet- he mind linked me

- Not yet she's still hurt, and she says she was rejected recently so I can't rush things- I told him

He nodded respectfully and gave her a sweet smile before asking

" What's your name young lady?"

" It's Ruby" she said

" Well then" Zaine bowed playfully" welcome back"

She smiled

" Now Ruby ,I have an important meeting to get to, I'll assign a maid to you till you recover, is that okay with you?" I asked

" Yes thank you, Alpha" she said

"When are you gonna tell her though?" Jack asked me, I lay lazily at my office desk trying not to go crazy by all that was happening,

" I'm not sure, maybe when she's ready to know I guess" I said sipping my coffee casually

" She's pretty" he said, he was right she was really beautiful aside from the fact that her eyes was sunken from all the crying, yet my wolf wants to pounce on her and make her feel that he cares, how can my wolf love someone I barely knew so quickly

" Brother are you blushing?" Jack asked with a smirk

" What on earth?, I'm the alpha why would I do something so weak?" I asked glaring at him

" Calm down Mark, I was just trying to get your attention back, you really like her don't you?" He asked

" I think, but it's my wolf I'm not so sure honestly I mean I barely know her yet, plus this is a second chance mate, I'm having thoughts,I'm Abit worried Jack" I had to say, he walked up to me and looked straight into my soul, I could have sworn his eyes changed

" You think she might be like the last don't you?" He asked, he was right again as always, my last mate was the worst thing that ever happened to me, she was like a curse if I must say that, and Jack knows how much I hated him mentioning her name

" Jack, Lia was a witch, I will never forget her for that but this is different I'm not sure Im ready for another mate considering how the pack would take it"

" To hell with that thought Mark!, that's your pack, even if she used them against you, it was against their will and they apologized, they don't owe you any judgement on getting another mate!" He barked

" I know but I'm worried about them, they're still recovering from the damage, announcing a mate so early would be, I dunno odd?" I admitted

" Mark you will announce her to the pack, just not yet, calm down they would be relieved that you are okay enough to take a new mate" he said with a soft pat to my shoulder

"Fine, but that's aside, we have to get her comfortable with the new environment, have you assigned the made to her yet?"

" Yes, Sarah is currently with her at the moment" he said as he sat down

" Good, anything else?" I asked him

" Well nothing important, but yes there is actually"

" Go on" i relax my shoulders

" Earlier when she spoke of her ex mate" he sat up, I already hated this topic but I had to listen" yes?"

" She accidentally said his name, Richard if I remember well" he said pausing to get my reaction,and he got it, I growled " my step brother?"

" I think, but she said he's on the council so yes it must be, we only have one Richard there" he says

" I'm gonna kill that son of a gun" I tell my wolf, and he approves

" Calm down, Alpha, he hasn't done anything wrong yet, well except the fact that he beat her up and threw her into the woods" he said with a smirk, he knew what he was doing, he wants to witness violence, seems it's been long he fought

" He hurt my mate that's enough of a reason to kill him, but you're right hes innocent right now isn't he" I lay back already tired

" We could interrogate him, or do you wish to ambush him?" he smiles

" No let him be, we'll handle him later, first I need to take care of my mate" I said before getting up

" f**k!, oh well, don't blame me if someone on the council goes missing though" Jack says also getting up

" Have fun just don't over do it" I tell him

" No problem, how many limbs do I break?" He asks

" Ask the physician how many ones got broken on Ruby first, then retaliate as a warning" I joke hoping he doesn't get the joke at all and kills the man for me

" Nice I'll be back " he says before leaving, my wolf growls aching to follow suit
