My car has stopped in front of the fence of a two-storey house built on a plot of 400m². The house is different from the others in the neighborhood; in a positive way, in a modern, rather pretty style. No doubt, it looks like the house of a man who runs a private school. Tann, who was driving in front of me to show the way, gets out of his car. He walks over to me, so I lower the window so he can talk to me.
"You can put your car inside. I'll open the gate for you."
Tann hurries to open the iron door.
Once parked, I enter the house, guided by Tann. He unlocks the door and turns on the light to illuminate the room. We go up to the first floor where the decoration of the living room is simple but elegant. There are some trinkets inside the house making it spacious and comfortable.
"There's a guest bedroom upstairs. And a bathroom. They're for you." Tann shows me upstairs, "but if you're still scared, you are welcome in mine."
"No thanks," I repeated this sentence for the second time. Tann smiles and goes up the stairs. I drag my bag behind me and follow him. On the way up I could feel the solid and dangerous object from home—much more powerful than my scalpel—in my pocket.
"You live alone ?" I ask looking around.
"My mother comes over sometimes but yes I live alone." Tann lights up the second floor and opens the right door. "Here. If you need anything, call me."
I walked into the room he opened for me. There is a single bed, a wardrobe, air conditioning and a bathroom. I turn around Tann, who is leaning over the door with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Take a little rest. Let's talk about the case later. Good night." Tann stands up and closes the door for me. I stay still for a few seconds before putting my bag on the ground. I sit gently on the bed. The clock on the headboard announces 1:30 a.m. I lie on the bed, exhausted.
It was the most peaceful night I have had in a long time, much better than the last few nights.
