Rendezvous

Chapter 3

Noah, Alexa and I looked at each other with shock written all over our faces.

"He mistook you for her," Noah said in disbelief

"Oh no, this is bad," I said as I slumped into my chair, I felt so guilty that the innocent secretary had just lost her job because of me. " he probably told the HR team to fire her and not me because he does not know who I am. What do I do now?"

"Stay quiet," Noah suggested

"That secretary purposely took the leave. This isn't her first time," Alexa said

"How sure are you? What if she was really sick?" I said, but come to think of it anytime the h.o.d had a meeting with the CEO she was hardly around, there was always one excuse of the other why she can't attend, Mr Caldwell is that scary so I understand. But I still felt guilty.

"I am going to confess," I said

"What?!!" They both chorused.

" You can talk it out with Mr Caldwell," Noah suggested

"Are you really that stupid Noah, do you think Mr Caldwell will pardon her for doing the right thing or award her or something?" Alexa asked

"Guys!" I yelled to calm them both. They both stopped and looked at me.

" I am going to call the h.o.d first," I said and picked out my phone to call him

"Hello,"

"Hello Sir, it is me, Halle,"

"Oh, Halle, I guess you heard the news,"

"Yes, I'll ummm resign,"

"Don't do anything stupid, Halle. we'll talk tomorrow, come to my office by 9am," he said and cut he call

I kept my phone done and looked at it in despair

"What did he say?" Noah asked

"He said we'll talk tomorrow," I said with a sigh

"Don't overthink it, go home and rest well," Alexa said

" I don't think I can," I said, and we all let the office silently.

It was the next morning by 9am, and I knocked on the h.o.d's office.

"Come in," he said, and I walked in.

I noticed that the secretary was empty,I felt so guilty, it was all my fault.

"Oh Halle, sit please," the h.o.d said, I sat down shortly after someone bright me coffee.

"Thank yo..." I looked up, and my eyes widened. It was the h.o.d's secretary

"I...uhh...um." I soundly lost my voice.

" I came to pack my things," she said, giving me a small smile

"I am really sorry," I said

I felt so embarrassed by my actions in the meeting. Even though it was a reflex action, I blamed the stupid CEO for all this, I should have resigned the moment I heard the news.

"It's fine, I never liked working here anyways" she said with a smile "the h.o.d is very nice, but being his secretary means I had to be seeing the CEO more frequently and that is really exhausting"

"I have always wanted to quit but where would I find a job that pays this much" she said " thankfully I found another job, the pay is good but not as much as this,but at least I get to breathe in peace" she said with a small laugh and I joined her, she was right about that.

"So you're leaving," I said, and she nodded with a big smile, i guess that job would make her happier.

"Keep your job, you don't need to resign," she said

"But that would be deceiving the CEO," I said

"He fires too many people, he won't remember you, trust me," she said. "But stay out of his sight for now,"she said before leaving, then I turned back to the h.o.d.

"I don't like the way he sacks people for irrelevant reasons. Imagine sacking someone just because of a sneeze. Does he not also sneeze?" The h.o.d said in disapproval. I was happy that they other had my back, and I felt more relieved.

"So I can keep the job?" I asked again just to be sure. He nodded

"But make sure the CEO does not see you for now, for like two weeks before you finally fade out of his memory," he said

"Okay, sir," I said with a huge smile. Avoiding Xavier would be so easy. I don't see him on a regular day, so this will be so easy.

I left the h.o.d's office and sprinted back to my department, Seeing me, Alexa and Noah, both rushed to where I was.

"How did it go?" They both chorused. I then told them everything.

"I'm proud of you," Alexa said, pulling me into a tight hug. "You deceived the CEO."

"I wouldn't have, I just had no choice," I said

"My Belmont dream is back on," I squealed. Alexa and Noah just rolled their eyes.

It was lunchtime, so we were walking to the cafeteria.

"CEO alert" Lexi screamed and we quickly his behind the nearest wall, wtf, why I'm I suddenly seeing him, we hardly ever see him around here, I noticed them coming towards where we were hiding.

"They coming!!" Lexi yelled with a whisper

"Tie your shoe lace," Noah suggested

"I am wearing heels dummy."

Noah pushed me to the ground, and I almost fell on my face.

I saw Xavier nearing us from the corner of my eyes. He had a really hard expression in his face.

His p.a. David was doing a bodyguard job. He was on alert. He was looking at everyone for any potential threat.

And Alexa was giving the biggest and weirdest smile ever, it was so obvious that she was hiding something, can she just act natural.

David noticed the smile and frowned, I guess he also found it weird. The minute they walked past us, I let out a deep breath, I was holding my breath.

"That was close." I let out

"It sure was," Noah said

"He's so dreamy," Alexa said

"Snap out of it, Alexa, never in a million years," I said.

"Halle, you really need to avoid the CEO," Noah said

"I know, why do people keep telling me the obvious?" i said

"Yeah, we are now the avoid the CEO squad," Alexa said, letting out a small war cry, I guess our VP was rubbing off on her.

"Mission avoid Xavier is on," I said

But some things are easier said than done, aren't they?
