Rendezvous

Chapter 5

He looked at me intensely, his eyes didn't leave me and I also stood still, I hope he has forgotten who I was, I hoped wronged, he gave out a small smirk and looked to the side slowly as he realized who I was.

Damn, I have ruined everything for me and my h.o.d. I just wanted to go back in time and not use this elevator.

"I thought Xavier fired you" David who was by his side said, but Xavier raised a hand at him signalling at him to keep cool, he stepped back a little to give me space to stay, but I didn't move, how could I?, I was in a really huge mess already.

He raised a brow at me, and I immediately stepped inside to avoid anything from escalating. He was very influential and could make my chances of getting a job anywhere after I was fired very slim.

I wanted to turn, but I figured it would be awkward, so I just stood there in front of him, I must say he is very handsome and attractive he doesn't look like this his character.

He suddenly started coming closer to me, I froze at the spot where I was, I looked up and saw his emerald eyes staring at me, I immediately looked away, my cheeks were burning red and I used my hands to fan it gently.

He was so close that I could feel his breath on my face. What was he trying to do? is he trying to kiss me as a punishment or what? that would be so weird.

I tried looking with the side of my eye and was slightly disappointed that he wanted to press the button beside me, I was just overthinking.

I muttered a curse and immediately moved away from where he was, I went to David's side to avoid any more awkward situation. David looked at me with a very weird look and scowled, and I know why.

I deceived the CEO, and now I have to face consequences.

Losing my job was sure, but what would happen with my h.o.d? How will he explain this situation to him. I dragged him into this mess, and I felt so guilty.

The elevator dinged, and I immediately ran out, I saw Alexa and Noah waiting for me at the other end.

"Hey Halle, who was...." Alexa said, then she realised who was also in the elevator with me. She and the brain looked like they ate a fish alive.

I started walking fast away from the elevator area, and they followed me shortly after we got to our department.

"What just happened?" Noah said, still in shock.

"I can't..." I tried saying, but the words got stuck in my throat.

"Why the f**k did he come early today?" Noah said again

"I want to cry" I said as I tried to blink the tears in my eyes away.

"What do we do now?" Alexa said worriedly

Noah slumped on his chair and let out a long sigh "I think I might s**t myself" he said

"No one cares Noah" Alexa said rolling her eyes

"What are you going to do now Halle" she asked me.

"Cry and resign, to save myself the disgrace " I said

"Do you think he would let you? He caught up with you already" Noah said

"Not helpful, Noah" Alexa said

"I just sneezed" I whined" It was just a sneeze"

"It is more than that now, I think the h.o.d should know about this" Alexa said

"I can't put him in more trouble than he already is" I said biting softly on my nails.

"He has to know he is already in trouble Halle" she said, she actually had a point there, I warily stood up and we both went up to him office.

On our way there i saw that the crowd in the hallway was more than usual.

"What's happening?" I asked her

"Today is the interview the h.o.d's new secretary"

"Oh no" I said " if he gets fired the new secretary would also have no job, why did I not just resign at first to avoid all this"

"I don't think he will get fired, he is an h.o.d, but he will surely he in trouble" Alexa said "but yours is sure"

"Thanks so much Alexa, I feel so much better" I said sarcastically.

When we got to his office, Alexa knocked on his door and he told us to come in.

We walked in and he welcomed us with a huge smile and I immediately felt mor guilty.

"How may I help you?" He said

"Halle got caught" Alexa said wasting no time, she could have at least said it stylishly.

"I'm so sorry"

"It's all right, all secrets don't stay hidden forever, do they?, did he recognize you?"

"He smiled but his assistant surely recognized me, he even said it loud, so that settles it"

"He smiled?" The h.o.d said shocked and I nodded.

"You are in great trouble Halle, this is beyond just firing you" he said

"How?" I asked in confusion

"When Mr Caldwell reacts like that it means great trouble"

"I just have to quickly hand in my resignation letter, yeah, thanks chief I have to go" I said then turned on my heels, in less that 30secs I was in my department already.

"How'd it go?" Noah who we left in the office said

"Later bro" I said, I was very qualified to find a new job within a week, just that pay may be lower.

"Are you really quitting?" Alexa said as she came in panting.

"Quitting?" Noah said confused

"Later Noah" Alexa and I said at the same time.

"Halle" our VP called and I looked up at her suspiciously

"Yes ma'am"

"Mr Caldwell wants to speak with you personally" she said with a pitiful look. "What have you done Halle?"
