Charlotte
I woke up to find May in bed with me.
"When did you get in here?"
"A few minutes ago. Mr. Johnson, let me in here, sleepyhead," she laughed. "But seriously, though, your bedroom is a palace. I wonder how Mr. Johnson's bedroom looks."
"This is his bedroom," I laughed.
"Wait what? You’re kidding, right?"
"No, I’m not," I said.
"Royalty treatment, I’ll give Mr. Johnson an A," she said.
"Yeah." I smiled, looking down.
"What’s wrong?" she asked, concern lacing her voice.
"It’s nothing. Looking back at my past and everything that I went through, I wouldn’t have believed I would meet Damian, and everything would change," I said, wiping a teardrop.
"Look at me, Charlotte. I also didn’t believe I'd meet Frederick and be living my best life," she said, holding my hands.
I smiled. I think I should start leaving my past behind and embrace this new chapter with Damian.
"Now, let’s get Queen Charlotte some breakfast," she said, getting out of bed.
"Let me freshen up first," I laughed. Today is going to be good.
I went downstairs after taking care of my hygiene and getting dressed. I hope May won't drag me anywhere; I'm already tired before I even start the day.
As I got down, I met a young lady helping Mr. Jones in the kitchen.
"Oh my God, mom, you didn't tell me she was this gorgeous," the young lady said, making Mrs. Jones laughed.
"Let her breath, Michelle; it’s too early for this," she said. "I'm sorry for my daughter’s behavior," she apologized.
"No worries, Mrs. Jones. I’m happy to finally meet your beautiful daughter."
"She’s way nicer and more beautiful than Pamela," Michelle said, making her mom laugh.
"Now let her eat her breakfast," her mom said. Michelle hugged me before leaving.
"What do you want to do after breakfast?" May asked midway through our meal.
"I don't know. Either go back to sleep or read a book; anything goes as long as I stay indoors," I said.
"That's partially boring, grandma," May replied, laughing at my shocked expression. "Well, I mean, we can read books and sleep and go out later; that's if you have the energy. If not, we can do it any other day," she added.
"I understand; I hope I get energy to go out later in the day," I said.
Sure, dear," May replied.
We ate our food in silence, enjoying the peace and letting our minds wander off to our men. "You know it won't be a bad idea to go shopping for ball dresses," May said. "Yeah, right, I said because I know sooner or later, I'll be convinced to go out. "You know, I guess I'm energized for the morning. We can head out before I start losing my energy," I said after we were done with breakfast.
"Yes," May said, jumping happily around.
"Girl, please don't drain me. I don't think you can carry me when I'm down," I laughed.
"Don't worry, we'll call our knights in shining armor," she winked.
I laughed, shaking my head.
"Michelle, would you mind joining us for shopping?"
She looked at her mom for approval. Her mom nodded.
"OMG, yes, let me go get ready," she squeaked, running to her room.
"I’ll make sure she’s safe, Mrs. Jones." I thanked her mom.
"I trust you," she replied. I smiled.
Damian
Today has been a slow day, and I can’t wait for the day to end and to get to be with my cupcake. My phone started ringing, and I smiled at the caller ID.
"How’s my cupcake doing?"
"I’m okay; I just miss you." Her sweet voice filled my ears.
"I miss you more, cupcake," I replied.
"I asked Michelle to join me for shopping. I hope you don’t mind."
"I don’t mind at all, cupcake."
"Okay, I didn’t want you to be angry."
"You won’t make me angry, cupcake. I just want to ensure your safety."
"Okay daddy. I’ll give you updates if anything."
"Alright."
We ended the call after sharing our love. I returned to dealing with more paperwork. There was a knock, and without waiting for a response, the person entered.
"Have a seat," I said, because I already knew who it was.
"I have seen that you have made a lot of progress since the last time I was here," my father said.
"I’m aware of that; thank you," I said, giving him my full attention.
"How have you been off late?"
"I’m pretty much good," I replied, a bit surprised. Since when did he care about my well-being?
"Okay, I just wanted to check up on you," he said, standing up. I followed suit. I walked him out of the building to his car.
"I know I haven’t been the best father to you, and I hope you’ll forgive me for that," he said, patting me on the back before entering the car.
Either he’s high on something or he’s planning something sneaky, I thought. I went back inside and continued with my work. I had a call from Sebastian.
"Did dad come to your office?" he asked as soon as I answered.
"Yeah"
"He came here saying he has to apologize to you for everything he has done," he said.
"Yeah, I find it weird, though."
"Same here. What made him get a sudden change in heart?"
"I have no idea," I responded.
"Don’t worry, we’ll be on the lookout."
"Okay." We ended the call right after. I won’t let my father or anyone else weigh me down.
Hi, cupcake," I answered.
"Hi daddy. I called to let you know we’re heading back home."
"Okay, that’s fine. Did anything happen?"
"Not really; aside from bumping into Maurice and being completely drained, there's nothing interesting for you." She chuckled. I laughed.
"Everything you tell me is interesting, cupcake. I look forward to listening to everything that happened when I wasn’t with you."
"I’m glad I don’t bother you with unnecessary chatter."
"I’ll be home soon to energize you."
"Okay daddy."
I hung up after her reply. I got up, grabbing my keys as I left my office.
"Great, I thought I was the only one eager to go home," Fred said as I met him on the way.
"Please, just say you’re going on your own mission," I said.
"Oh wow, you’re switching on me pretty quick," he laughed. "I can’t wait to make myself at home," he continued as we got into the car.
"Which home?"
"What do you mean, which home?"
His fake shock almost took me out. "I’ll have to sack you," I said with a serious expression.
"Quit playing!" he laughed. "May said they were being followed at some point." Fred added.
"Cupcake told me they bumped into him; maybe she was too tired to notice."
"It’s good he didn't do anything stupid; we wouldn’t like the end results."
"He wouldn’t be alive in the first place to not like the end results," I said, taking us home.
I got home minutes later and went straight to the bedroom. I found her fast asleep. I loved how peaceful she looked. I quietly and quickly took my shower. I slowly slipped into bed after everything and snuggled closer to her, carefully wrapping my arms around her.
"I missed you so much, daddy," she sleepily said.
"I missed you more, cupcake."
“Maurice was saying something about wanting to talk to me even though I didn’t cooperate with him. But Pat and Max made sure he didn’t get that chance of getting close to me," she whispered. "I didn’t pay much attention to him because I knew you were always there to protect me," she continued.
I placed a kiss on her forehead, making a smile appear on her face. "Don’t let him or anyone intimidate you."
"Okay daddy." She snuggled closer. I had some imagination," she whispered, her eyes still closed from the beginning of our conversation.
"Do you want to tell me?" I asked, running my hand over the dip in the side of her body.
"I wish I could tell you, but I'm shy." She hid her face in the crook of my neck.
"How are you still shy of me?" I chuckled.
"I don't know. You intimidate me, not in a scary way, but to the point of making me weak in my knees when I see you."
"Really?"
"Yes. You’re possessive, and you do your best to protect me. You love and cherish me, and you always do me right," she said, lifting her head and finally letting me see those beautiful, mesmerizing eyes.
"You deserve all the love and care, cupcake. You’re a breath of fresh air, and you light up my dark world. I’m forever grateful to the greater force that has made me cross paths with you. Whatever you’re doing to me, don’t stop. I want to keep feeling it every now and then."
She smiled, resting her head on my chest. This is what I yearn for, and I’ll do everything in my power to protect her, even till my last breath...
