Chapter 5: Their Mate

Chapter 5: Their Mate Grace and Connor stand in the Alpha office waiting for Goldie to answer them. Grace looks at her niece with complete unease, knowing someone has hurt her once again. Her anger burns at Levi for allowing this to happen to her. In her eyes, Levi is no father, just a man who created a child for his own gain. Goldie and the alphas stare at each other. The four of them are trying to read one another. Finding her mates was the last thing Goldie expected and isn’t sure she is ready for because she didn’t just form a mate bond, she imprinted. When a Golden Wolf finds their fated mate, they imprint on them. The bond is instantly intense, impossible to fight. The shock of finding their mates has ended; now the imprint has settled deep into their souls. “Goldie, honey, are you ok?” Connor softly lays his hand on Goldie’s shoulder to gain her attention. The alphas growl at the contact. Connor instantly removes his hand and sharply turns his head to look at the alphas. What Connor sees on the alphas’ faces is pure raw possession. This is all it took for Connor to understand the gravity of what is happening right now: Goldie is their mate. “I’m ok. It wasn’t Linda and Mindy. I was attacked by a woman with crazy powers. She hit my Jeep with lightning. I was forced to leave everything and run straight here.” Goldie explains what happened and why she has shown up as she has. “I’ll take care of your Jeep and bring it here. Just stay here where it’s safe.” Connor assures Goldie and leaves the office with his mate in tow. He saw no need to stay because the alphas would want to be alone with Goldie right now. “As you can see, I am who I say I am,” Goldie says, unsure of what else to say. She isn’t sure she’s ready for a mate, much less three. She’s just turned 18 and has already found her mates. Most wolves would consider themselves lucky they didn’t have to wait so long, but not Goldie. She wanted to wait a little longer so she could get her life in order. Right now, she feels her life is a mess and in chaos. This was not the right time to find her mates. “Yeah, we saw your file. I thought it was a prank,” Alec says half jokingly. “What, file?” Raphael asks. Alec and Wren look a little embarrassed by having only come across the file now. Wren passes the file to Raphael. “We’ll be honest, paperwork is our enemy. We hate it and save it til the last possible minute. We didn’t see it until tonight.” Alec admits. Goldie’s eyebrows knit together in confusion, “My transfer was approved, though, right?” “Oh, yes. Our Beta handles pack transfers. We just hadn’t formally signed it yet.” Wren explains. “Wow, you put a lot of trust in your Beta.” Goldie is surprised that someone could trust someone so much. In her experience, you can never trust anyone completely. “Your name is Goldie Locks? I guess you found your three bears, well, wolves.” Raphael says and chuckles. Wren and Alec laugh at their brother’s joke. Goldie does not. Goldie’s reaction isn’t something they expected, but probably should have. Her whole life, she has been teased about her name, but hearing her mates making fun of it hurt worse than anything Lind and Mindy ever did to her. In the alphas’ minds, it was just a harmless joke, not meant to be taken seriously. For Goldie, the joke was the key to her insecurities. Was this what her father wanted, her mates to bully her too? Her whole life has been a punishment for someone else who happened to be innocent. Goldie crosses her arms over her chest and turns away from her mates as tears slip from her eyes. She wonders if this is what they think of her, a joke. She feels as if her life is a joke. “I understand if it’s embarrassing for you to have a mate with a name like mine. I’ll just go.” Goldie says and starts for the door only for Wren to grab her hand and spin her around to face him. He uses his other hand to lift her chin so that she is forced to look at him. Wren admits to himself that he never cared if he had a mate or not. He was never in a big hurry for one, but now that she is here, he can’t let her go. “Mine.” Wren lets the word slip from his mouth effortlessly. The weight behind the word carries his claim and acceptance of the bond. Wren wipes away Goldie’s tears from her cheeks as they fall. “I’m sorry, I hit my head a couple of days ago. I didn’t mean anything by what I said, only trying to lighten the mood.” Raphael admits, now standing next to Wren. The alphas are confused as to why they could feel their mate's feelings so early in the mating bond. Normally, it happens when a stage of mating is complete, and certainly not at this intensity. Nonetheless, they must fix what they broke. Wren could feel Goldie’s insecurity about her name. He wanted her to understand that he wasn’t going to let her go, so in one word, he made her understand. “Mine,” He said it again with more possession in his voice as he stared into her golden caramel eyes. Goldie looks at Raphael with concern, though she isn’t sure why she should be, “You hit your head?” Raphael smirks at his brothers, “Yeah, and it still really hurts.” Raphael feigns hurt and holds his head in his hands. Alec slaps the back of Raphael’s head. “Knock it off, you i***t. Do not pay any mind to him, he’s fine. Doc gave him a clean bill of health today.” Alec says. “Eh, it was worth a shot.” Raphael shrugs and sits down in his desk chair. The alphas share one office; they saw no need for three offices. They remodeled the pack when they took over. “But yes, I was attacked by…” Raphael begins to say, but a certain thought pops into his head. “What did the woman look like?” He asks, but looks at Alec for the answer. Alec understands Raphael’s look, but this is the one time he can’t hear anything. Alec shakes his head, “I can’t hear or see a thing. It’s complete silence, her mind is like a bank vault.” “What?!” Raphael and Wren shout in shock. “Huh?” Goldie’s eyebrows knit together as she tries to figure out what her mates are talking about. “Oh, I can read people’s minds except for yours. It’s interesting.” Alec is almost mesmerized by the notion. Never before has he experienced complete silence with another person. It’s almost blissful. “And all of you have abnormal powers?” Goldie asks. She always feared that when she did find her mate, they would feel inferior to her. Male wolves don’t always take too kindly to females being the stronger wolf. “Yeah, but we’ll get into that another day. For now, business.” Wren says and walks to his desk, dragging Goldie along with him. He placed her in his lap when he sat in his chair. Goldie squirms to get up, but Wren holds her securely against him. He grabs her file and goes over it to ensure everything is correct. “You only named your wolf but didn’t put any of the other information down,” Alec states, finding it odd that she would do this. Goldie suddenly gets nervous about the question about her wolf. “Um, yeah. All I can do is ask you to trust me. Adalaide isn’t ready to be revealed to others. She’s likely the reason I was attacked tonight.” Goldie says in hopes that her mates will not press her anymore about her wolf. The alphas look at each other in understanding. “She doesn’t trust us.” Raphael mind-links his brothers. “She must have her reasons. It’s clear she isn’t an ordinary wolf. It may be safer for her to stay hidden for now.” Wren says, seeing reason. “Yeah, I mean, she likely met mom tonight. She might have sensed what she was and attacked her.” Raphael admits. Raphael thinks that his mother, now known as the Dark Lord, is the one who attacked Goldie tonight. “How could you know that? It could have been anyone.” Alec says. Goldie sits in Wren’s lap, watching her mates mind-linking each other. Adalaide snickers and decides to mess with them a bit. Goldie chuckles at her wolf’s thoughts. “Are you three done talking about me?” Adalaide mind-links the alphas. The alphas jump at hearing Adalaide’s voice. They end the mind-link and look at Goldie in shock. “Adalaide and I could hear you. But thank you for trusting me.” Goldie says, forcing herself not to laugh at the expressions on their faces. “How did you…” Alec asks in amazement. “That’s just Adalaide.” Goldie shrugs. “Fine, we’ll let the wolf thing go for now,” Raphael says. “I guess we should initiate you into the pack now. We wouldn’t want you to be mistaken again.” Alec says. Goldie nods in agreement because being mistaken for a rogue is the last thing she wanted. Wren opens the top drawer of his desk and pulls out a pocket knife. Wren uses the pocket knife to cut the pad of his thumb. He placed his bleeding thumb on her bottom lip, waiting for her to drink. Goldie sucks in a breath, surprised that he wants her to drink from him. Alec and Raphael keep their eyes on Goldie as they watch her take Wren’s thumb in her mouth. Wren purposely presses gently on her tongue as she suck a few drops of his blood. Goldie’s heart beats fast at the intimacy of Wren’s actions. Wren keeps his thumb in her mouth a few more seconds longer than needed, teasing Goldie. After Wren has pulled his thumb from her mouth, she barely has time to think before she pulls into another of her mates’ lap. Raphael does just as his brother did. Goldie’s cheeks turn crimson from the mere actions the alphas are doing. For something that should be so normal, they are making it feel intimate. Alec repeats the process his two brothers had done before him. Goldie now sits in Alec's lap with her back to his chest. She looks at Raphael and Wren, then to Alec, and sighs. She feels a little embarrassed that she actually doesn’t know their names, but they know hers. “Pledge, Blondie,” Raphael says expectantly. Goldie frowns at the nickname but doesn’t comment on it. Instead, she admits she doesn’t know their names, “Um, names?” “Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. We failed to introduce ourselves. I’m the middle triplet, Raphael Kaylix, but you can call me Raf or sexy cakes if you’d like.” Raphael says. Goldie blushes when Raphael refers to himself as Sexy Cakes. Wren and Alec groan. “Bro, no one has ever called you that but you. Stop trying to make that a thing.” Wren says. Goldie looks at Wren next, awaiting his name. She assumes he is the oldest by how bossy he already seems. He sits at the more prominent desk in the office, while Alec and Raf’s desks are more to the side against the walls, parallel to one another. So far, he’s been the one to make the first move. “I’m the oldest and the alpha with the final decision. My name is Wren Riker. Our last name is Knight.” Wren introduces himself. Goldie turns her head to look at Alec over her shoulder. “Alec Jax, baby girl.” Goldie’s face is flushed in what seems to be a permanent red. She wonders if they will always call her such names. ‘Maybe teasing is just in their nature. As long as it's innocent and harmless, I suppose.’ Goldie thinks to herself. Goldie sits up in Alec’s lap and squats her shoulders, looking directly at Wren and Raphael, “I, Goldie Adalaide Locks, formally of the Moon Rider Pack, pledge my loyalty and life to Alphas, Wren Riker, Raphael Kaylix, and Alec Jax Knight of the Shadow Knight Pack.” Goldie instantly holds her head in her hands from the pain of the pack link snapping into place. Her knees buckle; if it hadn’t been for Alec’s arms wrapped tightly around her, she would have slid down. Every mind-link in the pack swarms in her head as the link snaps into place. Then suddenly it all goes quiet just as the pack link snapped in place inside her mind. The alpha could feel her presence within the link, accepting her in. Goldie sighs in relief as soon as the pain is gone. “You did so well, baby girl.” Alec kisses the back of her head soothingly. Goldie’s cheeks redden from the sparks felt from Alec. He holds her securely against him as if he’d never let her go. “I’m so proud of you, Blondie.” Raphael rolls his chair over to Goldie and tucks a lock of hair behind her ear. Wren walks over and wipes a few stray tears away. “No more tears,” Wren whispers. He hates seeing her with tears. The alphas and Goldie sit in silence for a while just enjoying each other’s company. The alphas want to enjoy their time alone with their mate before the chaos begins.
