Lilianna shrugged. “I can’t do anything about what a supposed great-grandchild of mine will do sometime in the future. Children will do what children will do, and I certainly have no control over what this child in the future will do.” She laughed again. “I don’t even have a child yet to bring about this future grandchild.”
Margot pointed at Lilianna’s belly. “Your moonblood hasn’t flowed since before you began having relations with that riverboat man,” she said, “and his child grows in your womb.”
Lilianna Rubidoux slapped a hand to her abdomen. “That’s impossible,” she gasped, her brown eyes going wide. “I’ve gained a little weight over the Summer, it’s true, but I’m hardly big enough to have a child in my belly.”
