As Kirsty followed Chloe and Rodolfo through the underground cell, she couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu. The dimly lit passageways stirred memories of her initial arrival when Sam had guided her through these very same halls. They trod the familiar path, each step a reminder of the journey she had undertaken with Sam by her side.
In the underground cell, Kirsty's mind was flooded with recollections of the two distinct paths she had encountered before. The first led her alongside other prisoners, a bleak and desolate route that echoed with the anguish of those held captive. The second path, however, held the promise of something more—a connection to the castle itself.
As they entered the cell and approached the diverging paths, Kirsty's heart raced with anticipation. The secluded area at the back of the ranch beckoned, its secrets waiting to be unveiled. She had always wondered where the tunnel would lead and what mysteries lay hidden within its depths.
Chloe led the way, her steps sure and purposeful, while Rodolfo followed closely behind. Kirsty matched their pace, her eyes darting around, absorbing every detail of their surroundings. The damp, musty air hung heavy as if the very walls of the tunnel whispered ancient secrets. They walked in silence, the only sound the soft echo of their footsteps. Kirsty's mind buzzed with questions, curiosity-fueling her every step.
When she went inside the tunnel, As Kirsty stepped into the tunnel, a shiver ran down her spine. The eerie atmosphere wrapped around her like a suffocating mist, and her instincts screamed that unseen eyes were watching her every move. She tried to dismiss the unsettling feeling, reminding herself that it was just her imagination playing tricks on her.
The darkness swallowed them as they ventured deeper into the tunnel. Kirsty's heart pounded in her chest, each step amplifying the intensity of her fear. The absence of light gnawed at her senses, leaving her feeling vulnerable and exposed.
Though she couldn't see them, she sensed the presence of the other prisoners in the adjacent cells. Their tortured souls seemed to linger in the air, their despair and madness a palpable presence. The sight of their vacant gazes and anguished cries etched itself into Kirsty's memory, a haunting reminder of the fragility of the human mind.
The fear of losing herself to the same fate gnawed at Kirsty's thoughts. She had witnessed the toll captivity had taken on those imprisoned souls. The thought of succumbing to madness in the darkness of these tunnels filled her with dread.
As Kirsty stepped out into the open air, her gaze fell upon the familiar entrance door that marked her first encounter with the men of Sam. Memories of that fateful day rushed back to her—the fear, the uncertainty, and the realization that her secret was known to others. She couldn't help but wonder how much they truly understood about her.
A scene unfolded before her eyes, capturing her attention and momentarily pulling her focus away from her inner turmoil. On the ground, a group of men from the pack engaged in a display of raw physicality. Their bodies moved with fluid grace, each step and strike a testament to their training and skill.
To the onlookers, it was a mesmerizing spectacle—a display of power and control. But to Kirsty, it was a stark reminder of the brutality that lay beneath their seemingly invincible façade. She had witnessed firsthand their ability to heal, to shrug off wounds as if they were nothing more than inconveniences. Yet, despite this remarkable gift, the savagery inherent in their fights left her unsettled.
Her gaze met the eyes of some pack members who observed their arrival, their expressions a mixture of awe and curiosity. Kirsty could sense their admiration for the pack's prowess in battle. But beneath the surface, she saw a glimmer of understanding, a recognition of the cost that came with their extraordinary abilities.
Others looked in their direction as they recognized who was with her and the man who accompanied them, as they were quite known to the people inside. She acted as if she was not intimated by the stares that were thrown at her as they continued to walk, and she followed the two people in front of her. She almost bumped into the back of Chloe who stopped walking and called for her name.
“Kirsty?”
“Yes?” She looked around and people were staring at them. Her anxieties were telling her that they were particularly scrutinizing her appearance beside a powerful woman in the pack.
Chloe walked backward and whispered in her ear.
“Don’t mind them, just act normally, I could feel that you are nervous. Don’t let them also feel the same thing because that would catch their attention, especially since you are new to the pack…” And Chloe pinched her arm to make her feel that she was in reality and not in the clouds of her thoughts.
“I…don’t know…”
“Now you know, so just enjoy the surroundings and the attention that they’re giving us.” The woman chuckled.
Kirsty thinks to herself. She felt so small in front of these people and is powerless compared to the strength that they are exuding. The moment that these members of the pack knew her real identity, she couldn’t imagine herself.
She touched her ring, or should she say, the ring that was lent to her by Sam. The thing that offers her protection and safety. She adjusted the ring on her finger and focused her gaze on the wet grass because of the rain that just stopped pouring.
“Oh, they are here,” Chloe mumbled and the woman also called for Rodolfo’s attention.
They were walking to the location of the carriage that would take them to their household of Chloe, but they stopped midway as they saw a few carriages and horses.
“Rodolfo, what’s happening here?” Chloe asked the man once again.
Kirsty could vividly see that the woman had no idea about the presence of these, and she knew that they were powerful individuals in the pack, knowing that those who are able to have their own carriages and horses are powerful ones. She remained silent and is observant of the surroundings.
“Remember that the Alpha called the attention of the heads of each household because of an incident-“
The man looked in Kirsty’s direction and she avoided the cold stare of the man.
“Is that the same reason why Sam ordered you to be with us?”
“Yes, and they were still inside the castle.”
Kirsty couldn’t help but look at the huge and breathtaking view of the castle. The Alpha is inside the place, and she was curious about what the man looked like, and at the same time, she didn’t want to have the chance to see him since he had great disdain towards rogues and the Alpha knows everything when someone is lying, and she is bad at it.
“Would it take too long before it ends? Do you have any idea about it?”
“When I went to the ranch, the Alpha did not yet arrive, and they were still waiting for him before they start their agenda.”
“Wait, so the Alpha was late?”
Amusement was visible in the voice of Chloe, and it caught Kirsty’s attention.
“Yeah, he was.”
Chloe just chuckled.
“It is so seldom for him to be like that…” The woman mumbled.
“It is.” Rodolfo even agreed.
She just remained quiet and started to get curious about the identity of the most powerful and ruthless Alpha in the country. She knew that the Alpha is merciless with anyone who does not abide by the rules of the pack. And he was known to have great hatred towards the existence of rogues.
Kirsty's attention was captured by the breathtaking white tulips in the flower garden. The vibrant blooms stood out against the lush greenery and seemed to radiate an ethereal beauty. Lost in the moment, Kirsty momentarily forgot about the presence of the others as she admired the delicate petals and their intoxicating fragrance.
"Kirsty?" Chloe's voice brought her back to reality, and she felt a tap on her shoulder. Startled, she turned to face Chloe, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "Uh-uh, I am so sorry..."
Chloe reassured her with a warm smile. "It's okay. I can see why they've captured your attention. Those flowers are truly breathtaking."
“They are breathtaking…”
“I knew, the Alpha was the one who planted those flowers…”
“What? The Alpha?”
Kirsty could feel that the woman had a lot of information about the leader of the pack.
Chloe nodded a wistful smile on her face. "Yes, he used to plant and tend to these flowers with his late mother. It was a special bond they shared, a way to find solace amidst the chaos of their responsibilities. The garden holds a significant place in his heart, a reminder of his past and the love he had for his family."
Kirsty's curiosity about the Alpha deepened upon hearing that he had personally planted the flowers in the garden. She wondered what kind of person he was beneath his ruthless reputation. The idea of a powerful Alpha engaging in such a delicate and nurturing act surprised her.
Chloe noticed Kirsty's intrigue and sensed her unspoken questions. She offered a faint smile and said, "The Alpha may be feared and respected, but he also has a softer side. The bond he shared with his mother was incredibly strong, and he honors her memory by tending to these flowers. It's a reminder that even the most powerful can find solace and beauty in simple acts."
"I-Is he really that ruthless?" Kirsty was unaware that she blurted what was in her mind.
"Who? The Alpha?" Chloe raised her eyebrows.
"Y-yeah-"
"Where did you hear that? Rumors?" Chloe chuckled.
"That's what they said."
"He's a great Alpha of the pack. That's what I can say, Kirsty. You'll know him in time." Chloe pinched her hand. Kirsty fidgeted, feeling a mixture of embarrassment and curiosity. She hadn't meant to voice her concerns so openly, but the thought of facing the reputedly ruthless Alpha unsettled her.
Chloe's eyes softened, recognizing Kirsty's unease. "Rumors can be misleading, Kirsty. The Alpha is a complex individual, and people often exaggerate his actions and demeanor. Yes, he is a powerful Alpha who upholds the pack's rules and enforces order with unwavering determination. But that doesn't necessarily mean he is ruthless in the way people perceive."
As they continued their walk, Kirsty couldn't help but notice the subtle changes in the atmosphere. The air carried a sense of anticipation, as if the very grounds beneath them held their breath, awaiting the Alpha's arrival. The energy was palpable, and she could feel it coursing through her veins.
They reached the carriage area, where a few pack members were tending to the horses and preparing the carriages. The sight of the majestic animals, their muscular bodies and sleek coats, held Kirsty's attention. The pack members moved with a sense of purpose, their actions efficient and practiced.
"Stay here for a minute, we will meet the other soldiers first," Chloe said
"Ohh okay."
"Don't leave." And then she waved goodbye and they leave with Rodolfo to go to the group of men who were on the farther side.
As Chloe and Rodolfo walked towards the group of men on the farther side, Kirsty found herself standing alone near the carriages, her gaze sweeping across the surroundings. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of wet grass and the faint fragrance of the nearby flowers. She took a deep breath, attempting to calm her nerves as she awaited their return.
The pack members around her bustled with activity, their conversations mixing with the occasional sound of horses neighing and carriage wheels rolling on the gravel. Kirsty couldn't help but feel a sense of unease, aware of the lingering gazes from some of the onlookers. She tried to ignore their scrutiny, reminding herself to act normally as Chloe had advised.
Chloe and Rodolfo conversed with the pack members, discussing the logistics of their transportation. Kirsty observed them, noting the respect and deference given to Chloe as a high-ranking member of the pack. It was clear that she held a position of authority and commanded the loyalty of those around her.
Her thoughts drifted back to the castle, the place where the Alpha resided. The enormity and grandeur of the structure fascinated her, its imposing presence reflecting the power and authority the Alpha commanded. She wondered about the discussions taking place within its walls, the weight of responsibility that rested on the Alpha's shoulders. As she continued to wait, Kirsty's gaze wandered toward the flower garden once again. The white tulips, now bathed in the gentle sunlight, seemed to shimmer with an ethereal glow. Their beauty and fragility stood in stark contrast to the harsh realities of the pack dynamics.
