As she prepared to bring the bags of trash outside, she noticed that her clothes were soaked up with water and she had no idea of how she is going to change now. She had no extra clothing, no connection except for Chloe, who to her was enjoying the dinner that was currently served personally by the head cook. She heard that the beta’s family called personally the Alpha because of a celebration that just took now after a long time. She heard from the other workers in the kitchen that it has something to do with a waiting process. She doesn’t know for whatever particular reason that her heart starts to beat faster. While she was holding the two bags of trash, a familiar scent caught her attention, and as much as she wanted to suppress it and ignore it, her inner wolf started to lose control of her mind.
“Kirsty…our mate.” Her inner wolf cried at her.
The intoxicating smell was just around the corner, and the smell gets stronger as she gets nearer the door. Even if she was longing for her man, for her mate, the thought of rejection was the first thing that stopped her from getting drawn into her sea of emotions for her mate. Even if she wanted to just be in his arms, she couldn’t just do so because of her status in the pack, in society to be exact.
“Kirsty…” Her inner wolf was so loud inside her head, and it made her unable to think rationally. She decided to block her in the meantime.
The outside was so dark. Kirsty blinked a few times, trying to adjust her eyes to the absence of light. For a moment, she thought she was still inside the house, but as her senses sharpened, she realized she was indeed outdoors. The moon, a familiar beacon in the night sky, was conspicuously absent. In its absence, the stars shone with unparalleled brilliance, illuminating the world below. Confusion clouded Kirsty's mind as she scanned the area. She had stepped outside to dispose of the bags of trash, but there was no sign of the usual garbage bin or dumpster. Puzzled, she hesitated for a few seconds, her gaze sweeping the unfamiliar surroundings.
To her surprise, she noticed a narrow path winding its way around the side of the house. It seemed to materialize out of the darkness, beckoning her forward. As she stood there, the cool night air enveloped her, gently caressing her skin and soothing her frazzled nerves. The absence of light lent an air of tranquility to the atmosphere, and she found herself inexplicably drawn to the path. With a deep breath, she made her decision.
Taking a step forward, Kirsty ventured onto the path. The darkness swallowed her form, leaving her with only her thoughts and the dim glow of a torch at the path's end to guide her way. Its flickering light danced in the blackness, casting eerie shadows that seemed to come alive.
The further Kirsty walked, the more she realized the path was shrouded in an otherworldly silence. Not even the rustle of leaves or the distant hoot of an owl disturbed the night's tranquility. It was as if the entire world held its breath, waiting for something extraordinary to happen.
With each passing moment, the path seemed to grow darker, but the torch's radiance remained constant. It was an odd contrast—a single point of illumination in an otherwise impenetrable void. Yet, Kirsty pressed on, her determination overpowering any hint of fear that crept into her mind.
As she walked along the worn path, the sweet scent in the air grew increasingly potent, mingling with her racing emotions. Her hands clutched tightly onto the bags she carried, each containing a part of her world, as she neared the end of the familiar route.
Her thoughts raced, filled with trepidation and uncertainty. "Not now, please," she whispered softly to herself, not ready to confront her mate. Her heart yearned for more time, for the chance to gather her thoughts and emotions before facing the inevitable.
With each step, her apprehension grew, tightening her grip on the bags that held her belongings. As she took her final stride on the path, a powerful force suddenly yanked her towards the side and pressed her firmly against a nearby wall. Startled, she tried to make sense of what was happening, her senses overwhelmed her.
The moment she turned her gaze toward the person who had pinned her, her world spun on its axis. Time seemed to stand still as recognition dawned on her. It was him, her mate. The man she had hoped to postpone encountering.
"Mate," he whispered, his warm breath caressing her ear, sending shivers down her spine. Before she could react, his lips gently brushed against hers, setting off an electric current that coursed through her veins.
Conflicting emotions surged within her, a tempest of longing and fear. She could feel the depth of their connection, the bond they shared, yet the weight of her unpreparedness loomed heavily upon her. It was a clash between desire and the need for self-discovery.
In that fleeting moment, their lips intertwined, and the world around them faded into insignificance. The touch was both familiar and foreign, stirring emotions she had thought were dormant. But as quickly as it began, he pulled away, his eyes searching hers for a reaction.
"Mate..." Her breath caught in her throat as she heard the intimate term slip from his lips once more. It echoed in her ears, resonating with a mixture of longing and uncertainty. The intensity of his gaze was both comforting and unnerving, for it laid bare the depth of his emotions, mirroring her own inner turmoil.
Time seemed to stretch as they stood there, suspended in a moment that held the potential to change everything between them. She could feel the weight of his unspoken thoughts, the unfulfilled desires that danced in his eyes. It was as if they were on the precipice of a decision, a choice that could alter the course of their lives.
Her mind raced, desperately searching for the right words to express the cascade of emotions surging within her. Yet, in that crucial moment, her voice failed her. The words remained trapped in her throat, tangled in a web of apprehension and fear.
