What Kirsty had learned from what Chloe said made changes to the narratives about the cruel Alpha of the pack. But it didn’t move her to trust everything that the woman said as there could be biases, knowing that Chloe is a good friend of the Alpha, and her husband is the second highest-ranked individual in the pack. She did not yet have the chance to know the name of the Alpha and even saw what he looks like, but she had no hopes of doing so because she was afraid for her life. She was in the deepest part of her mind and is communicating with her inner wolf on how she would curate her own story of why she was in the pack and everything that might be asked of her. She still has to talk with Sam and negotiate with him, hoping that the man would agree with what she had planned in mind. Even if they were inside the pack, they went through a forested area. However, she could vividly see that there were houses built on the side. She made sure that every detail of the place that she had been and each piece of information that was given to her were engraved in her mind so that she could use these when the time requires. Rodolfo was outside the carriage as he personally took charge of the horse, and she was inside with Chloe. She was amazed at the view of the surroundings of how peaceful it was inside. She could still see the castle at their location. The rain stopped, and slowly the sun revealed its mightiest form. She always believes in the idea that problems are solvable, and brighter days are waiting for her. Even if she was deemed to be a rogue, one of the most hated entities ever existing, she still believes in the thought that not all rogues are cruel and brutal because she was existing, and she is not what most of the members of the packs in the country thought their kind ought to be. “We are not far from the castle, and from our household, we could still its form.” Chloe started as she noticed that Kirsty’s gaze was fixated on what she saw outside. “It’s beautiful…the forest.” “It is, fun fact about it, I am one of the people who planted the trees here,” Chloe said proudly, back when they were still young before, they reached the legal age, the age of being able to change into their werewolf form, she was with her husband, and Draken, and the omega of the pack who planted the trees. It was the tradition of the Alpha’s family to plant trees in the said area every year. “Whoa…that’s great.” She had no idea that people in her rank could do such a thing. “Yeah, when I was still young, of course.” But Chloe’s smile vanished as she remembered a painful memory that happened a year ago, which made her do things to a certain extent of protecting the lowly servants and slaves of the pack when aggravated. Kirsty noticed the sudden change in the woman’s expression as they continued at the sight outside. So, she remained silent since she didn’t know what to do or how to console the woman. “Oh…” “This mini forest reminded me of someone I valued…” The woman started. It caught Kirsty’s attention. She knew that the woman felt comfortable with her presence but not to the extent that she would show her vulnerable side to her. She didn’t want to just let the woman be open with her, but she can’t do anything otherwise. If only she was not a rogue in the first place, she would openly accept and listen to the woman’s mind without making her feel that she was deceiving her. “A family member?” She asked. “Not blood related but I considered her as a member of my family…” Chloe bitterly smiled upon remembering the exact thing that happened after she let Matilda go home first, and she settled the commotion with Kassandra. “Oh…” “You know what, she was with me since I was young, her name was Matilda…” “Was…” Kirsty thought about it. “Oh…she must have stayed with you for too long, is she waiting in your household?” She tried to make her voice as lively as possible as the atmosphere inside the carriage was thick and gloomy. “I wish…she’s dead, a year ago, actually.” “I…I am so sorry.” “No, it’s okay. I have accepted it already that she’s gone. But I won’t stop until I find who did it to her…” Chloe’s innocent eyes were replaced with hatred and anger that Kirsty just had noticed. She felt the strong aura of the woman and that she meant what she said. “What-“ “She was killed. Here, in this forest and the authority said that she killed herself.” “Killed? Inside the pack?” “Yeah, actually that night, the pack hosted a celebration, and the boundary was open to the guests…and there were quite a few people back then.” Chloe shed a tear as she remembered exactly the pained look of Matilda’s corpse. Even if it’s been a year, and she and Sam did their best to find the answers to Matilda’s killing that night, they couldn’t just find a single piece of evidence about it. She had prospected a few people, but her evidence was not substantial enough to prove that someone killed Matilda and she did not end her own life. “That’s horrible…” A powerful pack like this had also lapsed to its people, and Kirsty was interested in this matter. “It is and I won’t stop for her justice…you see that?” Chloe pointed to a bamboo hidden by bushes as tall as her. “Yes?” “Her body was found there.” Kirsty felt goosebumps as she looked exactly at the place Chloe was referring to. She didn’t know but her heart felt heavy with Matilda’s story, that she couldn’t fight for herself because she was weak compared with others since she was just an old lady and a servant. “It’s secluded.” Kirsty knew that the place was a good area to throw corpses knowing that it was secluded and far from the public’s eyes. “I will tell you her story when we reach our home, Kirsty.” Chloe held her hands, and she felt their coldness.
