“Wait...wait, I just realized it now. Did you look for them?” Chloe again asked her. She's now back to her vibrant look. “No…as much as I want to, I don’t remember them-“ “You lost your memory.” Chloe was surprised upon learning this from Kirsty. “Yes.” Kirsty was now thinking twice if she would tell the woman further information about her past. Revealing this to Chloe urged Kirsty to find the greatest amount of courage just to be able to speak her heart out. "When—" Chloe began to ask, her voice filled with curiosity, but she was interrupted by a loud knock on the door. Both women turned their attention toward the source of the disturbance, their hearts quickening with a mix of apprehension and curiosity. Kirsty instinctively moved closer to the door, her senses heightened as she strained to identify the unfamiliar presence on the other side. The air inside the room grew tense, and the old house seemed to hold its breath in anticipation. “Shh. I think it’s Rodolfo.” "Rodolfo?" Kirsty repeated, her voice filled with a mix of confusion and anticipation. The name held significance, a connection to a time she couldn't quite remember. It hovered on the edges of her consciousness, teasing her with its elusiveness. “Yes, the one who would accompany us to your cell and then to my household.” Chloe stood from sitting on the grass and extended her hard for Kirsty to hold on to. “Yes?” Kirsty was not quite sure what the gesture is trying to imply. Living alone for a couple of days, she was used to not being shown kindness and softness. She was not used to seeing a person who cares for her even if their paths just have crossed, and Kirsty couldn’t even fathom that this is happening to her now. Chloe raised an eyebrow, a playful glimmer in her eyes. "You want to stand up or what?" she quipped, a hint of teasing in her tone. Caught off guard by the lightheartedness, Kirsty mustered a faint smile. "I would," she replied, her voice still tinged with disbelief. "Then give me your hand," Chloe instructed, her voice gentle but firm. “For what?” “Silly, just give me.” And Kirsty slowly extended her right hand to the woman, and she gasped when Chloe pulled her up using her strength. Kirsty hesitated for a moment, her guarded nature reluctant to trust this newfound kindness. But something in Chloe's eyes reassured her, coaxing her to extend her right hand slowly. Gasping in surprise, Kirsty felt herself being effortlessly pulled up by Chloe's strength. "You're not heavy. Did you even eat?" Chloe's concern was evident in her voice as she surveyed Kirsty's fragile frame. "I did..." Kirsty replied, her voice barely above a whisper, her gaze fixed on the ground. Chloe shook her head with a playful smile. "Well, it seems you need more than that. Anyways, follow me. Let's pack up your things, see your new house, and enjoy a good meal to help you gain some weight." “Can I ask you something?” The kindness of the married couple wouldn’t register in her mind. And everything was just surreal for her. And she was afraid that Chloe would find out what her real identity is. “Sure, go on.” Chloe walked toward the door. "Why are you doing this to me?" The room fell into a hushed silence as Kirsty's question hung in the air. Kirsty's voice quivered with a mix of vulnerability and frustration. The sudden changes in her life, the unexpected encounters, and the unrelenting kindness she had received from Chloe were overwhelming. Chloe turned her gaze back towards Kirsty, her expression a mix of surprise and concern. She took a step closer, closing the distance between them, and met Kirsty's eyes with a steady gaze. "Do what, Kirsty?" Chloe's voice held a gentle curiosity, inviting Kirsty to voice her thoughts and fears. "This... this kindness and everything..." Kirsty's voice trailed off, her words hanging in the air, pregnant with unspoken questions. Understanding washed over Chloe's face, her eyes softening with compassion. She reached out, gently placing a hand on Kirsty's shoulder, offering reassurance amidst the confusion. “Oh!” Chloe smiled genuinely at her. Kirsty's words hung heavy in the air, her discomfort palpable as she tried to make sense of the kindness that surrounded her. The weight of her guardedness bore down on her, the unfamiliarity of genuine care unsettling the walls she had built around herself. Chloe regarded Kirsty with a mixture of understanding and determination. She could sense the struggle within Kirsty, the conflict between her desire for connection and the ingrained self-preservation that had been shaped by her past. "What? I don't want to be rude, but... this is just too uncomfortable for me. I'm not used to this treatment," Kirsty confessed, her voice tinged with a mix of vulnerability and hesitation. “If it is based again on your status in the pack, I don’t give much regard to it. And you should start getting used to this type of treatment, Kirsty. Not all members of the Trowbridge pack are cruel from what you have heard, well of course, except the Alpha.” A mixture of surprise and curiosity flickered across Kirsty's face as she absorbed Chloe's words. The notion that not all members of the pack shared the same harshness she had experienced challenged her preconceived notions. "I... I'm so sorry," Kirsty murmured, her head bowing slightly in shame. She realized that her initial judgment had been clouded by her past encounters, preventing her from seeing the potential kindness that existed within the pack. Chloe placed a gentle hand on Kirsty's arm, lifting her chin to meet her gaze. "No need to apologize, Kirsty. We all carry our own biases and judgments. The important thing is to recognize them and challenge them when they prevent us from forming genuine connections. Are you doubting the genuineness of what we are doing?” It was visible in the voice of the woman hurt in it. “No…it’s just that I am not used to this…I don’t deserve this at all-“ “You deserve this, so now, come and follow me outside so that I could introduce you to Rodolfo.” Chloe held and pinched her hand and pulled her to the closed door. “Thank you…” She silently prayed to the moon goddess as a way saying her gratitude. “Shhh, it’s alright.” As Chloe pushed open the closed door, Kirsty's eyes widened at the sight before her. Standing in front of them was a man of immense stature, his bulky frame commanding attention. He towered over them, his height leaving Kirsty feeling small and insignificant. She could only reach up to his chest, the disparity in their sizes highlighting the difference in their strengths. The man's stone-cold gaze met Kirsty's, his eyes revealing years of experience and a hardened resolve. His presence exuded an air of authority and power that made her heart skip a beat. She felt a mix of apprehension and curiosity, wondering who this towering figure was and what role he played. Chloe's wide smile filled the room, her enthusiasm seemingly undeterred by the man's intimidating presence. Kirsty couldn't help but marvel at the ease with which Chloe greeted him as if they shared a deep bond. “The woman is a sweet pea.” Kirsty’s inner wolf suddenly appeared in her mind. “She is, indeed.” She replied back. “Rodolfo…meet Kirsty, and she’s going to live with us from now on…” Kirsty's heart skipped a beat as Chloe introduced the imposing figure before her as Rodolfo. She could sense the weight of his power and the air of authority that surrounded him. His scrutinizing gaze bore into her, causing a shiver to run down her spine. She knew instinctively that this man held significant influence within the pack. Rodolfo's bulky shape and intense presence made Kirsty acutely aware of her own vulnerability. His stature was a stark contrast to Chloe's warm and welcoming demeanor. She wondered what role he played in the intricate dynamics of the pack. "Sam ordered me to accompany you two," Rodolfo stated, his voice deep and resonant. "So, I guess this is the woman he was referring to." Kirsty's eyes met Rodolfo's, and in that fleeting moment, she caught a glimpse of something unexpected. Beneath his powerful exterior, she saw a flicker of vulnerability, a hint of hidden weaknesses. It was a realization that everyone, regardless of their status or power, carried their own burdens. Kirsty had always possessed a peculiar ability—an ability she had desperately tried to suppress. Whenever she looked into the eyes of others, she could see glimpses of their innermost vulnerabilities. It was as if their secrets, fears, and weaknesses were laid bare before her, an unspoken language hidden within their gazes. As Kirsty met Rodolfo's gaze, she couldn't help but be drawn into the depths of his eyes. But this time, she encountered something unexpected. Behind the imposing facade and the strength he exuded, she saw a flicker of fear—a fear that seemed incongruous with his position of power. She was the first to break eye contact, unable to bear witnessing Rodolfo's hidden vulnerability. It perplexed her to think that someone so capable of commanding authority within the pack could harbor such trepidation when faced with his own blood. It was a revelation that left Kirsty questioning the essence of his strength and how he could possibly face the ruthless rogues that lurked beyond the pack's borders. “Yes, she is the one. By the way, her name is Kirsty, Kirsty Lincoln.” “I see.” Rodolfo just nodded his head. He was just a year older than Chloe, and she treated the man as her own brother. Although Rodolfo is just her cousin who lived with them when the attack happened eight years ago. The remnants of the rain dripped from the leaves, their pitter-patter breaking the silence as Kirsty and Chloe made their way along the path to the underground cell. The heavy clouds still loomed above, casting a gloomy pallor over the morning sky. In this somber atmosphere, Chloe broke the silence, her voice tinged with a mix of admiration and pride. "You know what's something amazing about Rodolfo, Kirsty?" she began, her eyes shining with excitement. Curiosity tugged at Kirsty's thoughts, urging her to feign interest in the revelation. "What?" she asked, her voice masking the knowledge she already possessed. "He had no wounds in his body," As Chloe's words hung in the air, Kirsty's gaze shifted to Rodolfo, who stood there in silence. His stoic expression revealed nothing, masking the emotions that lay beneath the surface. Kirsty couldn't help but feel a pang of empathy for him, understanding the weight he carried upon his broad shoulders. Behind the facade of strength and admiration that surrounded him, Kirsty recognized the burden he carried—a secret that evoked fear and isolation. "Yeah, not even a single one," Chloe reiterated, oblivious to the unspoken burdens that Rodolfo bore. Her voice brimmed with excitement and admiration, yet Kirsty couldn't shake off the sorrow that had settled within her. "That's... great," Kirsty managed to say, her voice tinged with sympathy. She couldn't help but feel a deep sense of compassion for Rodolfo, knowing the reasons behind his immunity to physical wounds. Chloe caught up in her own enthusiasm, turned her attention to Rodolfo, her eyes searching for a confirmation of his well-being. "Right, Rodolfo?" she prodded, urging him to share his perspective. Rodolfo met Chloe's gaze, his eyes reflecting a myriad of emotions. A flicker of vulnerability passed through his features, momentarily exposing the cracks in his impenetrable facade. He nodded in response, his silence speaks volumes. Kirsty could sense the unspoken words that lingered between them, a language that transcended verbal communication. It was a language she had come to understand, one that spoke of hidden struggles and unseen wounds. "I guess we are good to go." Chloe said.
