As Kirsty gasped for air, the man's vice-like grip on her neck began to loosen. Confusion flashed across his face as he tried to comprehend what was happening. It was as if an invisible force had intervened, subtly weakening his hold. Astonished, he released Kirsty, taking a step back to reassess the situation. Draken was on his daily work of visiting his horse in the ranch at the back of the castle. Every day, he was getting used to visiting c***k who was injured when he rode him as they jumped off the wall. c***k was not able to calculate the jump as Draken was on his back, causing the horse to stick his legs in the hole of the wooden ground when they landed on the other side of the wall.
Draken saw how c***k struggled in pain and cried out loud. Draken was alone with his horse when they were on their morning jump on the wall, and the moment c***k fell to the ground, he felt helpless as he saw him in the situation. The situation was immediately aided as Sam, his beta was on his daily rounds of checking the ranch.
Draken decided to check c***k for the day and aside from that, there was something in the ranch that kept on pulling him. As he set foot on the ranch, the scent that had tantalized his senses filled the air once more. It was a heady mixture of wildflowers, earth, and something else, something uniquely enticing. It enveloped him, teasing his olfactory senses, and drawing him closer to its origin.
With each step, the intoxicating aroma intensified, amplifying his curiosity and heightening his anticipation. Draken's senses sharpened, honing in on the direction from which the scent emanated. He navigated through the sprawling ranch, guided solely by his instinct and the lure of the unfamiliar fragrance. His inner wolf was even pushing him to go in the place, and he could feel that his inner wolf was not in his steady state as it kept on wanting for something, longing for someone that Draken didn’t even know about.
The same smell that he smelled the night when Sam arrived from the trade. And it’s pulling him to immediately locate the source of it.
“Draken, the smell…” His inner wolf cried with longing as he was on his way to the ranch.
"I could smell the same thing," Draken replied, his thoughts merging with his inner wolf's. The telepathic connection they shared allowed them to communicate seamlessly, a bond that had grown stronger over the years.
"I want it," Draken's inner wolf declared with a mix of yearning and determination.
It was the first time that his inner wolf cried for something to be his. The source of the smell was pulling Draken to immediately look for it as he could feel a connection to it. Every single step that he took made his heart beat faster than regular.
It was a surprise to him that the inside of the place was clean. He was at the place the night before since he personally prepared the food for his horse without letting his men know that he was having an attachment to c***k. c***k was left to him by his father, and it was his responsibility since then. The smell was pulling him again, and this time, his inner wolf was struggling with immense emotion that he couldn’t even explain. Draken started to get sweat and he made his way inside the place. His instinct was telling him that someone was inside the place. The horses were quiet as he entered, and he noticed that the water hose and the trash on the ground were nowhere to be found. There, he raised his guard on himself because he knew that he was not alone inside. Aside from the intoxicating smell, a connection was pulling him to the direction of where c***k was situated.
“No…someone is inside the place.” He whispered.
Draken's heart pounded in his chest as he surveyed the scene before him. The door to his horse's cage stood ajar, a silent invitation for the world to intrude upon his domain. His eyes narrowed, scanning the surroundings for any sign of the audacious culprit who had dared to trespass upon his territory. With measured steps, he moved closer, his senses attuned to the faintest sound or movement.
The horses inside the stable seemed to sense his presence, their ears flicking back and forth as if exchanging a silent message. They remained calm and collected, mirroring their master's demeanor. The rhythmic thud of hooves on straw-covered ground ceased as Draken approached, their unity ensuring no unnecessary noise disturbed their vigil.
Draken's gaze fell upon the cage, his eyes locking onto the open door. It was a deliberate act, a deliberate challenge. No one crossed the line into his private sanctum without consequences. His reputation as a fiercely possessive owner was known far and wide, and this trespasser had dared to defy his authority.
His eyes narrowed further as he spotted a few stray blades of grass scattered near the entrance of the cage. A sudden realization struck him—the intruder had attempted to feed his horse. But only the specific variety of grass that Draken himself procured would do. His horses were accustomed to a certain diet meticulously crafted by him, and no one had the right to interfere.
“Shhh.” He touched the vest of c***k. The horse, sensing the gravity of the moment, turned its head in the direction of the room at the back of the stable where its vets and food were kept.
“Silent, Chink.” Draken said once more. The sound of his own breathing seemed unnaturally loud in the hushed stillness of the stable. Draken knew that there was an intruder lurking somewhere within these walls, and he had to find them before they could inflict any harm. The place remained silent and the horses inside were silent too.
