“I…I should prepare it then.” Leo nodded his head and ushered for his people to be back to their work and prepare the meal that the beta's wife ordered. Some women were still looking at Draken’s attention, drooling.
Draken was about to turn his back on them but the head cook called for his attention once more, and this time, he was being submissive to the Alpha.
“Alpha.” The man said it in a low voice, a matter of being submissive to the highest authority of the pack.
With a slight nod, Draken acknowledged Leo's call. "Yes, Leo?" he responded, his voice reflecting his desire to expedite the conversation. The urgency of reuniting with Kirsty compelled him to find a swift resolution.
“Do you need anything? Any specific request?” The head cook was ushering for him to sit on the chair which was situated beside the door to the house’s wine cellar.
Deep within the confines of the wine cellar, hidden behind rows of aged barrels and obscured by shadows, lay a secret that only a select few knew of. Draken, Sam, and Chloe, bound by a shared past and their unwavering commitment to protecting their pack, had concealed something of great importance within the cellar's hidden chambers.
Unbeknownst to the rest of the pack, the wine cellar served as more than a repository for their finest vintages. Within its depths lay a cache of invaluable relics, protective armaments, and ancient knowledge. It was a sanctuary of sorts, safeguarding the remnants of a dark chapter in their history—the assault of the Wolfsbane.
In the aftermath of the vicious attack that had left their pack ravaged and their spirits shaken, Draken, Sam, and Chloe had taken it upon themselves to ensure that such a devastating event would never be repeated. They had searched tirelessly for any remnants of the Wolfsbane's arsenal, determined to keep the dangerous weapons out of the wrong hands.
Their efforts had not been in vain. With each discovery, they carefully concealed the artifacts within the wine cellar, fortifying the room with enchantments and wards to shield their contents from prying eyes. The room became a bastion of protection, its secrets locked away, known only to the trio and a handful of trusted allies.
The other hidden item, known only to Draken and Sam, resided within the Alpha's hidden study. This sanctum was a sacred space, filled with ancient tomes, maps, and relics that told stories of their heritage and the challenges they had faced. It was a space where secrets were whispered and plans were hatched.
Within the study, protected by powerful enchantments and hidden compartments, lay an object of immense significance. It was a talisman, imbued with the ancient magic of their ancestors, a relic that had played a pivotal role in the pack's survival during the Wolfsbane attack. Draken and Sam had entrusted this talisman to the hidden study, believing it to be the safest place to guard its power against those who sought to exploit it.
“For what?” He raised his voice.
Draken was even lost in what the cook was asking about. His inner wolf was urging him to leave the place and it was so loud inside him to the point that he couldn't think properly.
“I apologize, Alpha.”
The Alpha just nodded in response. He was about to exit the place when a moment of silence engulfed the area as Sam entered the kitchen area while catching his breath.
All of the eyes were on the sight of him, and Chloe was on his back. It was visible in their eyes that something has happened.
“Alpha,” Sam called for him.
And this time, he knew that the concern was serious.
“Let’s go outside.” Chloe interrupted them. They didn't want their people to hear what they were about to talk about.
They immediately walked outside the kitchen area and went to the opening door which was connected to the water fountain, and when they reached the said area where the loud noise of the running water could be heard, Sam broke the news to him.
"We received word from one of our members," Sam began, his voice filled with a mix of sorrow and determination. "A pack member was found wounded near the warehouse, not far from the boundary of our territory."
“And what does it have to do with us?”
The weight of the recent killings and the resurgence of the Wolfsbane hung heavily in the air, casting a shadow over the Trowbridge pack. The memories of their past encounters with the enemy flooded Draken's mind, reminding him of the deep-rooted grudges that the Wolfsbane harbored against his family. The unrequited love that the witch had held for his late father had twisted her heart, driving her to commit heinous acts in the name of a love that could never be reciprocated.
“The right hand of the warehouse’s head was killed, and…and a member of the pack was set up to be the killer using an armor engraved with the pack’s seal.”
The news of the latest killings struck a nerve within Draken and sent a ripple of concern through the pack. The fact that the right hand of the warehouse's head had been slain indicated a direct assault on the pack's stability and the intricate balance of power they had established within the city. It was a calculated move, designed to provoke fear and sow discord among their ranks.
“Sofie is tied there.” Chloe pointed to the black horse which was eating her food.
Draken vividly remembered that Rodolfo was the one who took charge of the horse when he arrived at the place.
“Do you know who was it?”
“The killer?”
“Yeah.”
“I…I don't know, the news was delivered to us by one of the warehouse’s people, and they needed our presence there immediately, or else, they would kill our member.”
Though the identity of the true killer remained a mystery, Draken understood the urgency of the situation. The news had come through an intermediary from the warehouse, a plea for their immediate presence to prevent further bloodshed and protect their own. Time was of the essence, and they had to act swiftly to save their pack member from possible execution.
“They held it captivated?”
“Yes, Draken. And they couldn't extract any information from the man, as they said that the man was wounded on his leg and he was hallucinating. The reason why they couldn't talk to him properly.”
Draken's eyebrows furrowed in deep concern as Sam relayed the unsettling information about the member of their pack who had experienced hallucinations after the recent killing. The implications of such an occurrence sent a ripple of unease through Draken's mind, stirring thoughts of dark magic and nefarious potions.
The notion that their pack member could have fallen under the influence of a spell or potion was a troubling possibility. It raised questions about the extent of Wolfsbane's capabilities and its willingness to employ dark arts to further its agenda. Draken knew that he needed to gather more information and witness the situation firsthand to draw any meaningful conclusions.
“Where?”
“They jailed him inside the warehouse. And we must be careful upon entering the said place, they were high on security.”
“Can I come with you?” Chloe felt a sudden fear and there was something that was telling her to go to the place.
“No, you can't come with us,” Draken answered her. She may be stubborn, but she can't force what she wanted when Draken opposed her.
Chloe's eyes shimmered with determination as she pleaded with Draken, her voice unwavering. She couldn't simply sit idly by while her pack members faced danger and uncertainty. Her loyalty and dedication to their pack compelled her to be an active participant in their endeavors.
"But Draken, I can't just sit here while you and Sam investigate. I want to help, to be there for our pack members," Chloe insisted, her voice filled with conviction. Her eyes locked with his, displaying her unwavering determination. She knew the risks involved, but her loyalty and love for their pack propelled her to offer her assistance. "I won't be a burden; I promise."
“Yes, Klo," Sam responded softly, his voice laced with both love and concern. He held her hand gently, bringing it to his lips for a tender kiss. "Just...just stay here for your safety. We'll handle this situation."
“Okay.” Chloe put a pecked on his lips and hugged him, and it was at the same time that Draken looked away.
The black stallion neighed when it sighted Draken who was walking in its direction.
Breaking away from Chloe's embrace, Sam turned back to her, his eyes filled with concern. "Chloe, where's Rodolfo?" he asked, his voice tinged with urgency. Rodolfo held a significant role in their operations, and his absence at such a crucial moment raised additional concerns. The beta wanted Kirsty to stay with Rodolfo for additional protection even if they were just within the vicinity of the pack.
Chloe's brows furrowed in worry as she searched her mind for answers. "I don't know," she replied, her voice tinged with concern. "He mentioned earlier that he needed to go somewhere, to buy something. He didn't specify where or what it was."
Time was of the essence, and Draken knew they couldn't delay any longer. His resolve strengthened, and he made a swift decision. "Let's go," he said firmly, his voice carrying the weight of their shared responsibilities and the urgency of the situation.
Chloe nodded, her worry was evident as she took a step closer to Sam. She reached out and grasped his hand tightly, seeking reassurance and unity in their shared determination. "Be careful, both of you," she said, her voice tinged with worry and love. "If you need anything, if there's any way I can help, please let me know."
Sam's gaze softened as he looked into Chloe's eyes, grateful for her unwavering support. He squeezed her hand gently, promising silently to protect her and their pack. "I will," he replied, his voice filled with a mixture of gratitude and determination.
Draken's mind raced with thoughts of the escalating tensions between the pack and the warehouse. The recent killing and the setup of one of their own as the culprit threatened to disrupt the fragile balance they had established with the city and its inhabitants. If the truth were to be uncovered and it revealed that a member of their pack was indeed responsible, the consequences could be dire.
His determination to reach the incident scene as quickly as possible consumed him. In his haste, he momentarily forgot about Kirsty, who remained outside in the cold night. The weight of the impending crisis weighed heavily on his mind, overshadowing his usual attentiveness and concern for her well-being.
As the wind whipped through his hair and the night enveloped him, Draken couldn't help but reflect on the consequences of the unfolding events. The delicate relationship they had forged with the warehouse, built on trust and cooperation, now hung in the balance. The actions of one individual threatened to unravel the harmony they had worked so hard to maintain.
As Draken approached his black stallion, its majestic form seemed to mirror the weight of the situation. The stallion's eyes met Draken's, and a silent understanding passed between them. There was urgency in the air, a need to confront the unfolding chaos and protect the delicate balance they had fought so hard to establish.
Mounting the stallion with a fluid motion, Draken's mind raced with thoughts of the incident and the potential repercussions it held. The attack on their pack member near the warehouse threatened not only the fragile alliance they had forged with the surrounding city but also the trust they had built within their own pack. It was imperative that they acted swiftly and decisively, both to seek justice and to prevent further destabilization.
