Draken's gaze bore into the old man, his eyes narrowed with suspicion. The news of a soldier's death within his household, particularly one with a connection to his daughter, sent a surge of anger coursing through his veins. The fact that the old man before him was the very same person responsible for impregnating his daughter only fueled his desire for answers.
The air in the room grew tense as Draken contemplated the old man's words. He was well aware of the importance of trade within the Trowbridge pack and how every transaction was subject to his scrutiny. The fact that this soldier had gone out for a trade without his knowledge raised a multitude of questions in his mind.
He wouldn’t think twice about plotting to kill the man.
"Alpha... I just learned it this morning... when you called us for this urgent meeting..." The old man's voice quivered as he addressed the Alpha, his eyes filled with trepidation. He stood at the head of a long table in the pack's meeting room, surrounded by high-ranking members of the Trowbridge pack.
"Do you have any information about why the man went out for a trade last night?" Draken inquired, his voice resonating with authority. He knew that every trade involving the Trowbridge pack must undergo scrutiny before proceeding to the next steps. It was a necessary precaution to ensure the safety and well-being of their pack members.
The trade was unknown to Draken. If the trade involved the name of the pack, basically, Alejandro went against the rule of the pack and the said violator must face the consequences of the actions that he took. Draken smirked, knowing that this might be the end of the man’s power over the pack, and he would no longer be protected by his own title.
“A trade?” Someone was surprised to know the reason behind the soldier’s purpose of going out the last night.
“Isn’t it must be under the approval of the Alpha if the trade involved the name of the pack?” Sam also asked the same thing.
Draken knew that Sam had been so eager for the exile of the old man from the pack. They were just waiting for any violation that the man would do. And the trade that happened last night, which compensated the life of one of his soldiers might be the answer to what they were wanting from the start upon knowing the dirty tactics of Alejandro. As much as Draken wanted to kill the old man upon knowing that he impregnated his own daughter, he couldn’t just do so as everyone in the pack follows the rule that was set by the old Alpha, Draken’s father. And as the successor of the throne and the only heir, he only follows what was mandated of him to do. Even if Draken wanted to change something, he must be mated first to act on such a change. And that is something that he can’t do.
“It is. It must be under my approval. Why was this trade not brought to my attention?" Draken's voice carried a blend of authority and frustration. He waiting for the old man to confirm if the trade that happened last night involved the name of the pack.
The Alpha already sent his men to investigate the trade and the killing that happened near the warehouse as it was a piece of alarming news to everyone. He couldn’t just be complacent about it. The reason why Draken was late for the meeting was the fact that he met with his men before he sent them to the place. They would return immediately when sufficient information is gathered from the area. And now, Draken hadn’t yet known if the trade involved the name of the pack, as much as he wanted for it to be it is supposed to be so that he could expel the old man from the pack with a valid reason. Even if he is the most powerful of the pack, he still abides by the rules and regulations of the pack, especially in trading and marriage.
“I only learned that my soldier was killed when the Alpha called for a meeting about the incident…and the trade…it was-“ Alejandro was about to finish what he was supposed to say but a knock on the back door caught everyone’s attention.
"We cannot allow such activities to go unchecked," Draken stated firmly. "The honor and integrity of the Trowbridge pack must be upheld at all costs.
"I-I apologize-"
Draken smiled triumphantly. His men just arrived at the right time for the revelation that he anticipated.
“Open the door!” Draken shouted at the two soldiers by the back door.
Draken's command echoed through the hall, cutting through the tension-laden atmosphere. The eyes of every pack member present turned away from Alejandro, their curiosity piqued by the commotion at the back door.
With practiced efficiency, the soldiers stationed by the door swung it open, revealing the figures of two men clad in black jackets. Draken's gaze locked onto them, recognizing them as the individuals he had dispatched to investigate the area where the killing had occurred.
The room held its breath, awaiting the revelations that were about to unfold. The Alpha's strategic move had brought forth tangible evidence, proof that would shed light on Alejandro's illicit activities.
The man with the black hat, a symbol of his authority, inclined his head respectfully toward Draken, acknowledging his status as Alpha. His presence exuded confidence and a sense of purpose.
"A pleasant day, Alpha," he greeted, his voice carrying a tone of respect and professionalism.
Draken nodded back. He smirked at the idea of getting rid of the old man. Even if the man contributed for the benefit of the pack, Draken could still find ways to compensate for the old man’s loss in the case now that he could prove that the old man traded without the Alpha’s approval. His eyes gleamed with a mixture of satisfaction and anticipation. The arrival of these men marked a turning point in the unfolding events, a pivotal moment.
“Come here. Make yourselves comfortable.” Draken called for the attention of the two men who were still standing by the back door and ushered them to go near his side in front of the leaders of the households of the pack.
“Alejandro, you may take your seat as I introduce these gentlemen.”
The old man’s face was terrified as Draken was unknowingly smirking. He knew that the Alpha was up to something, and Alejandro knew that he violated the rules of the pack. He wanted to get rid of the presence of the soldier whom his daughter is in a relationship with. His daughter just turned eighteen right after he impregnated her, and they also knew that his daughter’s mate was the same soldier who was killed last night.
As the two men in black jackets stepped forward, the weight of Alejandro's guilt intensified. He knew that his actions had caused immense pain and suffering for his own daughter. Her pregnancy, hidden from the world, was a secret known only to a select few within Alejandro's household. The old man was aware of the potential consequences if the soldier, her mate, discovered the truth.
Alejandro's heart ached with regret, realizing that his selfish desire to protect his reputation and maintain control over the pack had led him down a treacherous path. The soldier's untimely death was a consequence of Alejandro's actions, indirectly snuffing out the life of his daughter's mate and plunging her into a state of grief and anguish.
He had ordered the soldier to embark on the fateful trade mission, using his own name and invoking the Trowbridge pack's influence. Alejandro had hoped that by removing the soldier from the equation, he could safeguard his daughter's secret and prevent any revelations that might threaten his position within the pack. He had gone to great lengths to keep her hidden away, held captive within the confines of his own home.
The room remained silent as Draken observed Alejandro, the depth of his betrayal becoming increasingly apparent. The Alpha's eyes narrowed, a mixture of anger and sorrow clouding his gaze. He had hoped for a better outcome, a chance for reconciliation and redemption, but Alejandro's actions had painted a different picture.
