Through Unexplored Territory

As she blinks, the foggy figure disappeared. She was there, just staring where it was before. She tried blinking many times but it didn’t appear again. “Hey.” She snapped back into reality as she turns to the source of the voice. “Are you okay? Did healing my wound snap your sanity out?” Abigail groans as she stands and glares at Gallant. “You are one unthankful bastard.” She grabbed her bag and hangs it on her shoulder. “Hey, I already said thanks. I don’t need it to repeat too many times. You already got the message.” She rolls her eyes as she went to the middle of their own camp, where most of them are there around the fire. “Good morning.” She greeted them. The others greeted back at her, with Catrina typically silent about it. Abigail seats beside him. “What happened back there?” Edsel munches on some meat that he has. “He just has some wounds. He said he can’t bother Catrina, so he will bother me instead. He did.” Keeana joins them with some evidence that she didn’t sleep so well. “Are you okay?” Lavena looks at her as she nods enthusiastically. “Yep! It’s just typical for me to have these things under my eyes. If we got into the village and have a rest there for a day, I will be better. I can’t just sleep on my duties to scout for things.” The pink girl smiles, “Could you get your map out?” Keeana nods as she pulls out her map and unfolding it in front of them. “The city is not quite far. It’s just some walk and we will be there. I am sure the people there are already awake. It can be also a chance for us to get more food for our travels. They are the best sources for that.” She giggles as she grabs some snacks and served herself some breakfast. “We can cook some for ourselves, you know?” Edsel said as he finishes his food. “Besides, I can’t be someone who will be useless here.” Lavena rolls her eyes, “The lack of supplies will not be good for you. Besides, you can’t cook well if you don’t have those, can you?” The man didn’t answer back and just shrugs. “I am just saying that I am still here, there’s no need to be hopeless about our food situation.” Minutes later, they have filled their stomach enough for them to travel without feeling so tired when they arrive at their destination. Wren flies and hovers over them to act as another guidance and ease of travel. Keeana is holding the map to lead them where they need to be. The others are just prepared to draw their weapons for any fight that will just appear out of nowhere. And here is Abigail, all nervous about what’s going to happen. She needs to shut her mouth with what just happened when they first got in here with her. Although, she can’t hold to ask one thing, “Do you think they hate witches?” Lavena looks at her, “No, don’t worry. They’re not like Lesser Untamo. I already talked to you about that. What’s with the overflowing distress?” Abigail sighs and thinks of an excuse, “It’s just, I really feel something bad when I am traveling to another city.” Winsel looks at her, “It’s the first time you got into a city, right? What’s with that instinct? Do your witch instinct feels something? Is that what it is?” She shrugs, “Maybe? It’s just an uncomfortable feeling. But, I am not going to stop you in your plans to go there. Besides, all of you have been there, right?” All of them agreed. “So, I am granting my trust to all of you that this is a good idea. Besides, not all of my instinct is right. It might’ve just been me trying to get used to this. Not all people will be nice to you, even if you were a hero that once saved them. I didn’t even do anything, yet I am here with you. Getting praises that I don’t really deserve.” She smiles awkwardly, she crosses her fingers that it will be an effective diversion to the topic she impulsively opened up due to her curiosity. “It’s fine, there might have been a deeper explanation with those.” Lavena fixes her knuckles. “Besides, you are already a hero when you started helping us and others. I already said this to you, Crocus. You deserve that title and the praise, you will deserve it more once we get into the middle of this adventure!” Abigail nods, she knows that she has settled everything before about her being a hero and her deserving that title. But, she’s happy that it diverted their attention and topic to a much safer one where she can’t just slip a word about the corruption thing. She’s a bit hesitant to even say a word about it. The individual, which she knows is the Dark Wizard, might come after her. She already proved to herself that they indeed forgot everything. They didn’t even hesitate to go to the city again and didn’t question why they are back in the forest that they slept on before. Minutes later, Wren saw the silhouette of the city in the distance. “Just up ahead!” He shouted from up above. Keeana gives him a thumbs-up as she sets aside her map. They started approaching the city without hesitating and looking at their map. Without hesitating that they might be dangered again by the witch. “Can I go outside of this little pack we made?” Abigail asked them. “Why?” She shrugs, “I just don’t want for us to be in a complete mess when we got there. Besides, I am sure they will crowd us. We need a much bigger space to walk.” Gallant laughs, “Now, who’s egotistical?” She rolls her eyes as Lavena giggles, “We can spread out once we’re there. But, unless we’re in the walls, we need to stay together. Anyone could inflict harm on us when we’re still outside of the city.” “We can’t even be sure we’re safe inside the city.” Abigail added as the others agreed, “She’s right, not all people will be nice to us. Although, I think we will be able to fight back even we are scattered inside the city. There are a lot of places we can jump on to get out of danger.” Abigail looks at Edsel, quite suspicious of what he’s pertaining to. “What things could we jump on to?” He thinks for a while, “Moving carts for faster mobility, roofs could be quite great too, and even the clothesline going through buildings. It’s not really hard. We already did that back at the…” Abigail squints her eyes to him, waiting for him to admit something. “I forgot the city… Ah, Pacuvinium. There.” There’s a sudden surge of disappointment breeze through her body and the excitement that she has faded out of existence. “Just in Pacuvinium?” He shrugs, “I and Winsel have been doing that before we met these guys. Especially when we met Keeana, she’s the best at that thing. It’s fun, we should try it sometime.” Winsel grunts, “It’s not fun when someone’s after you when you are doing that.” “Hey!” Keeana objects, “It’s a lot more fun if that’s the case. It’s a challenge, you see. Besides, the greatest tricks are getting executed in those times. Sometimes, pressure and the lingering thought of risk is something that drives me to pull off sick tricks!” Winsel rolls his eyes, “And the lingering thought of death because any time you screw off is a subtraction to the probability of you possibly surviving any dangers or risk that being chased imposes?” Keeana’s cheek puff and pouts, “You are a bummer.” Edsel laughs, “But, yeah, Winsel is partially right. Something about being chased is really a nerve-racking situation. Being chased by our father is already scary, how about someone that has the ability to finish us off and doesn’t have any hesitation to do so?” Abigail starts to get confused. All of what they are saying just checks out everything that just happened before all of this. She doesn’t know if they are really playing on her and they know things, or it’s just a coincidence that they have experienced something similar to this. She was quiet for a while until she was snapped back to reality for the nth time this day. “Hey, are you okay? Your mind just seems to float away from reality.” She turns her head as she can see Edsel with his hand on her ears. He pulls away after he flicks her ear. “Yeah, I am just thinking about things. Don’t mind me, continue telling your adventures.” They did until they arrived at the city’s gates. The merchants and travelers that were near it greeted them. The guards welcomed them as well. The word of them arriving spread so fast that there are people that are awaiting them just a little bit far from the gates. They started to scatter around a bit to give themselves some space to each other. It was time for Abigail to test if it’s still the same. She’s a bit on the edge for the people to notice her. They are starting to and she was surprised that they aren’t reacting negatively to her appearance. They even know who she was. “The Floral Witch!” One screamed at the back. The word witch didn’t anger them or made them aggressive at all. Instead, some of them even approached her a bit to see her in much closer detail. “She’s beautiful!” One lady with weird appearances in her body squeals. Abigail smiles at her, “You are too.” The girl squeals again and jumps in excitement with her friend. Her previous meet-ups with her fans trained her well in these kinds of situations. It was just like it, fans are crowding in one space with something that prevents them from tackling her with excitement. Although, the people here are much more controlled, which is something she’s happy for. “There are a couple of inns here, but, we’ll choose the one that’s nearest at the gates. We’ll just be here for a day to get some food for our travels.” Lavena looks at Catrina, “Do you still go those daria there?” Catrina nods, “Yep.” She gives her a bag of it, it seems full based on the sounds and how some of it bulges through the bag. “We have money?” The pink girl looks at her and nods, “We didn’t pay anything in Halvvilla since Mother Yvette said that we don’t need to pay anything there. I was hesitant but she insisted. I can’t say no to that lady. But, we are going to pay in this city. It’s just fair for them.” She looks inside the bag as she nods, “I think it’s enough. We will not be spending a lot of this.” She gave it back to Catrina for safe-keeping. They went on and asked for the nearest inn. They were lead into an inn, bigger than the inn in Halvvilla. It’s a decent size, especially being the inn nearest to the gate. They expect it to be full. They entered the inn, it was the same one that they entered before. But, this time, the counter lady didn’t panic as she saw Abigail. They were glad that there are the exact number of rooms for them. They were given the keys to their room and were given a tour. Abigail immediately went to hers and dropped everything in the bed. She took a rest for a while. While she was laying on the bed, staring at everything, she noticed something strange. Behind a cabinet was something that doesn’t fit at all. She approached it and moved it. There, she saw something that they can call in this world a tear in the fabric of reality. It was just a frayed cut of a portal-looking hole with weird things going past it. “What is this?”
