Hair-raising Confession

1296 Words

The bright afternoon sun shines through the colorless blinds. Joe and Max are sitting side by side in the dark-paneled conference room. The detectives are on either side. The sparse furnishings consist of a table and twelve matching chairs sitting on a scarred-up, lusterless, hardwood floor. A flat-screen hangs on the wall furthest from the door. A set of windows are behind them; another set is to their left. The team watches Antonio tells them his part in Romero's business. Joe's eyes widen, his jaw drops a bit further with every word. All of this is going on in our quiet town, he thinks, shocked by his statement. He knew they had organized crime in the city, but he had no idea it was this extreme. He runs his fingers through his thinning hair while listening to the horrific details. d*
