“Detective”
She heard someone call her from behind just as She was trying to sneak into her office.
She slowly turned back to find the chief police officer, Mr Marsh Darwin. She froze. She’s been caught red handed trying to sneak into her office, what’s going to happen now?
“Why are you sneaking like a thief into your own office?” He asked folding his hands.
“I....em....I was em....” she kept stammering not knowing what to say.
“Ah detective, I’ve been looking all over for you. You left the evidence room in a hurry, I guessed you might have found a clue to the case”
A Godsend came out of nowhere to help the situation. Detective Maurice stood there waiting for Hazel’s reply, at least to keep the lie going.
“Oh, yeah I did, that’s why I rushed to get the files” she replied.
Mr Marsh only nodded and then leaves the scene.
“Phew! Thanks a lot” hazel replied making a sign of relief.
“You know the chief has always been on your neck not to mention what happened with your last case, you should be more careful” Maurice said raising an eyebrow.
“You spoke about a case earlier, what case is that?” Hazel asked trying to recall if she had been given an case.
“We’ve been working on the case of the 31st street for some days now, you mean you don’t remember? You went there yesterday for some clues, don’t you remember?” Maurice had a look of surprise all over his face.
“Oh, that, 31st street, yeah I totally remember” she replied with a feigned laughter. She prayed Maurice wouldn’t be able to tell she was lying.
“So you got any clues?” He asked.
“Ah, not yet but I plan on going there today to find one” she replied running her fingers through her hair.
“Then, I’ll go with you, we’re partners after all right?” He said with a smile.
Hazel could only nod not knowing what else to say.
“I’ll see you after work hours” he said and then heads towards his office.
Phew! That was a close call. 31st street, what could have happened there yesterday? Does it have something to do with her not remembering anything? She wondered.
Whatever secrets does the 31st street hold? She had to find out without hesitation.
