Your Turn Now

116 Words

Take your 100-word summary from the previous chapter or another one of your 55ers and expand it to a flash piece of 500–1,000 words. Get into your story quickly, tell your tale, and bring it to a swift and surprising conclusion. Don’t be discouraged. First drafts are always terrible. (I wouldn’t dare show you the first draft of this book you’re now reading.) Put your piece aside for a while and as many of my writer pals say, “Let it cool.” Later on you’ll be doing quite a bit of revision to get it just right. Now, on to the next chapter for a brief review of loglines, themes, and three-act structure.
