Elena's heart pounded. She had to remain strong, for she realizes that the situation she is in is not a conducive one for her to give in. “No, you are mistaken, my team will find me. And yes, you will be made to pay for all your wrong deeds.”
Victor's smile faded. “Wait and see,” he said.
The door of the room squeaked once more, and the man with the syringe stepped forward again, his face hard. “The address was a dead end.”
Victor's eyes were filled with anger. “You lied to me, Elena”.
Elena's heart raced. The situation finally decided it, she had to think fast. “Hold on, there is another location I didn’t mention yet”? “I can tell you all about it.”
By this time, Victor had grabbed her by the collar of her dress, and was close enough to her. “You had better not be lying again”.
“I swear that I am telling the truth this time,” she said fearfully.
Elena’s breathing became heavy. “It's a storage unit, it is located on the outskirts of the city”. That is where the evidence is maintained.
Victor watched her for a moment before turning to the man and pointing at the door at the end of the hall. “Go on, and this time I want you to bring something worth taking.”
The man went and Victor changed his gaze to Elena. “You are running out of chances, Elena.”
Liam and Maya reached the old warehouse. They both had fear in their eyes and courage pumping up their veins. When they got to where they were hiding, they were met by David, who looked more like a guilty man.
“I’m sorry,” apologized David; his voice was shaking. “It was never my intention for this to happen”.
Liam did not say a word, and instead seized him by the collar. “Where is she, David?”
David shook his head. “I don’t know, but I have a contact who might”. He is one of my sources and former associate of Victor’s. “He owes me a favor”.
Maya stepped forward. “Then let’s go”. We don't have time to waste.
Liam, Maya, and David went to the specified address, which was a depressingly dim nightclub in the outskirts. They spotted the contact, a burly middle-aged man going by the name Jack, with his back leaning against the bar.
“Jack,” David said, spotting him from a distance and walking towards him. “We need your help.”
Jack looked up, and his eyes became narrow. “David, what do you want?”
“Come on, we need to know where Elena Carter is,” David went on. “Victor's men took her.”
Jack sighed. “Victor is really wrapping his claws around her”. “But I might know the place where they keep her”.
Liam stepped forward. “Tell us, please.”
Jack nodded. “They work from a kind of old warehouse, located in the outskirts of the city. That is where Victor conducts some, let’s say, rather sensitive affairs.”
Maya's eyes widened. “That’s where they took her”.
Liam turned to David. “Come on, we don’t have much time”.
Elena's heart pounded. The woman was forced to remain as sturdy as she was. “You're wrong, my team will locate me”. And when they do, sir, you will wish you had never wanted to be a rebel.
Maya, Liam, and David entered the warehouse, their hearts filled with fear and determination. They parked their car some blocks away and cautiously came close to the building.
“What is our plan?” Maya asked in a soft voice.
Liam pulled out a small gadget. “I’ll corrupt the security cameras”. “Maya, David, you find your way into the building and locate Elena”. “I will protect you from here.”
David said, ok, let’s go.
Disabling all the cameras in the warehouse by hacking its security system one after another. “Go ahead, you are free”.
Maya and David sneaked through a side door of the warehouse as they went inside its dark interior that was silent in tension thickly packed air. Silently they moved keenly to see any traces of Elena.
While she was still in her room, Elena’s mind raced at a fast pace of thought because there was no time to lose before Victor’s men returned. She looked around, until she spotted a scrap of metal lying on the ground nearby. With a massive effort, she squeezed her hands enough so that she could use it for cutting at least some part of those ropes tying her wrists together.
Their senses were heightened as Maya and David traversed through the storehouse. Finally, they heard muffled voices emanating from a room at one end of a long corridor.
“That must be her,” whispered David.
Cautiously, they approached the door. David peeped through a crevice and saw Elena bound to a chair, with Victor standing close by.
“We need something to distract him,” Maya said.
David agreed while producing a small smoke grenade. “This should suffice.”
David threw in the device, which burst into a cloud of dense fumes. Victor and his henchmen coughed and walked clumsily out of the room as they became briefly blindfolded due to the smoke.
Maya and David rushed into the room. “Elena, we’re here!”
Her eyes widened with relief. “David! Maya.”
David unfastened her quickly and helped lift her up along with Maya. “We have got to get out now,” Maya stated.
They were fast, but Victor’s men were already recovering their steps. “Catch them.” shouted Victor.
Liam's voice hissed through their earpieces. “Take the rear exit, I've got it covered.”
They ran inside the warehouse, evading bullets and hurdles. Liam provided cover for them, as he takes Victor's men one after the other.
Finally, they made it through to the back door of the building, breathing so hard. Liam appeared next to them, looking grim faced. “We have to go now.”
They all squeezed in the vehicle, which then zoomed away, leaving behind the warehouse. Elena still sat in her seat, holding back due to fear that resonated from within. “I owe you,” she said. “You saved my life”.
David agreed. “We're still in danger. Victor will keep pursuing until he gets what he wants.”
Elena's gaze intensified. “We'll ensure he never achieves it, no matter what.”
